This review is from: Vantec Stealth 80mm Double Ball Bearing Silent Case Fan - Model SF8025L
Pros: Solidly built fans, very quiet operation
Other Thoughts: I bought two of these for a server chassis and they were whisper quiet when I put them in and tested them. Then when I reinstalled the grill they became noisy. So the air coming through the grill is producing the noise. Nice fans and will buy more when the other server factory fans fail.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: D-Link 8-Port EasySmart Gigabit Ethernet Switch - Lifetime Warranty (DGS-1100-08)
Pros: Managed switch, every imaginable configuration setting is available for the user. For example you can limit the throughput of each port. You can also limit the bandwidth used by broadcast and multicast stations to prevent them from slowing the rest of the network.
Switch works when plugged in without any setup necessary. You don't have to manage it.
Supports jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes if enabled.
Strong solid metal case.
Comes with a utility on a disk that will find the switch on your network and allow you to access it or set the IP address in range of your network so you can access it through a browser. (Works with the Opera browser too)
Cons: Indicator lights and connectors are on the same side of the switch. This might limit the places where it can be used for example you don't want wires coming out on top of your desk.
The default IP address is way out there requiring the installation of their utility on your computer to access the switch for management.
Wall mounting method is difficult.
Other Thoughts: This is really an amazing switch in that the user can configure it to function to an exact set of parameters. If I were looking for another switch I would get another since the price is in line with other switches that don't have the functionality of this managed switch. Even if I don't need to manage it now, the need might present itself in the future. More options is always good.
To test it I replaced another switch in my security system with this one and it now has six IP cameras attached running 24/7 sending data to my server and it hasn't skipped a beat. It connected seamlessly when I plugged everything in.
I have indicated the cons above but there is more I can say about the mounting. This switch, like many others like this, has two cross slots on the back so to mount it you have to drive screws in EXACTLY the right spots to mount it solidly. Since wall mounting is the best option, in my opinion, I would like to see a better mounting system. How about two mounting holes through the unit? It won't expose the switch to any more dust contamination than the slots on the back. The mounting screws that come with the switch are very weak and the slots strip out. Be sure to drill a pilot hole if you mount it onto a wood surface or the screw may strip out before it goes far enough in to hold the switch solidly.
This switch is the best I have used and I have several in my network. It works perfectly and has a lifetime warranty.
Pros: Clear image with good magnification.
Focus ring turns smoothly.
Connects flawlessly with USB on Win XP.
Has a lens cover to keep the lens clean when not in use.
Cons: The stand really limits the capability of this device. It is way too short to use the full field of view possible.
When the focus ring is backed off for minimum magnification and largest field of view, the LED's are visible and limit the size of the specimen.
Other Thoughts: I bought this microscope because I have some coins that I want to sell online and need clear images. With the LED's turned on the field of view is about the size of a nickel. With the LED's turned off, I can capture the image of a silver dollar with just the slightest bit of one edge out of the picture.
To get the largest field of view the scope has to be raised about eight inches, making the microscope stand useless unless you set the stand on a box or something to raise it up. Also, the LED's have to be turned off so they won't block the edges of the image which requires providing another source of light.
With the microscope as close as I can get it to the object, the magnification is greatest and I can really see clear details. Make sure you remove the lens cover which is clear but the image quality is much better with it removed.
This microscope does what it is designed to do and will clearly show every detail and imperfection in my coins.
Video can be captured with the scope too but I haven't tried video yet.
