Solid performer
Pros: Solid performer. Latest drivers show stable performance with Vista
Cons: Rated 4.4 on Vista graphics performance scale. Not a big deal for me since I don't run games.
Watch out for bent pins and SATA connections
Pros: BIOS controls are user friendly.
Cons: Put it together, wouldn't post. Found bent pin. With Newegg's return policy on such matters, I could only send it back to MSI at my expense, then also pay $45 to exchange. I know how to install CPU on these things and I'm convinced I didn't bend it. Oh well... It took 3 weeks to get a replacement. That was after 3 calls to tech support and nobody could tell me the status of the RMA. I heard, "we don't know for sure where it is in our process but I'm sure it will be shipped tomorrow" 3 times. Watch out for the SATA connectors, they come out the rear of the board and interfered with my drive bay. I had to cut out part of my drive bay frame to clear the cables. What's with that? Really hard to install cables. Why not point them vertically like most other designs? Finally got it working for about a week when the board stopped recognizing the Vertex 4 SSD. The SSD was in a previous board and worked flawlessly for months. Finally got it to work but it corrupted the UEFI sector and I had to reformat and reinstall.
Overall Review: Again, watch out for the way the SATA cables are mounted. They will interfere with many case designs.
Great Laptop
Pros: Solid, well built laptop. Keyboard works well, plenty of ports. Battery life is acceptable at about 2.5 to 3 hours. Runs Vista well. Doesn't come with too much marketing junk installed. Had to call tech support a while back and was pleasantly surprised to get an articulate, well informed gentleman who was actually located in the states. He answered my questions immediately. Now that's a bonus!
Cons: This is a big machine and more of a replacement desktop but it is portable of course. I just wouldn't want to lug it around too many airports.
Overall Review: I've owned quite a few IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads over the years. None of them have disappointed. Always rock solid. I wasn't sure how the consumer brand (ideaPad) would compare to the business models I had in the past. Not to worry! Same workmanship. Windows 7 works really well on this unit. Drivers are available on consumersupport.lenovo.com.
Still not yet for Vista
Pros: Great Printer! Quick, cheap, high quality. I have the network version.
Cons: Still no Vista drivers! Unbelievable but true. The printer works with the XP drivers but features are not available and crashes occur on some programs. I wrote to HP to complain about drivers and they sent me to a beta release which didn't work at all on my system.
A really great case!
Pros: Looks great. Top access for usb, firewire, power, etc. is great. Nice big fans provide quiet cooling. Easy access to inside without screws.
Cons: Make sure the front doors are open when the CD/DVD ejects. The screw-less attachment method for the drive bay would not let me align the CD drives flush to the front surface.
Overall Review: highly recommended. The cons are really minor issues.
You get what you pay for!
Pros: Super quiet, well built, multiple interfaces, good looking
Cons: Doesn't work with Windows 98
Overall Review: This is an excellent product and worth every penny. I have purchased several cheap enclosures in the past and was disappointed with capabability and noise issues. Be aware that it doesn't support Windows 98
