Pros: Cold, frosty, fast. Also...did I mention this card is very quick, and COLD? I live in the hot desert not far out of Vegas, and even in my office (where the ambient over 80f) this card hit 54c at peak, and 59 when overclocked. AMAZINGly cool.
Also...removing the 970's I had in SLI, and moving the heat to a rad, cooled my cpu by 5-7c to boot! Less hot air in the case means longer longevity of my parts. So now I have clc's on both cpu/gpu, and the case is full of cold air! Brilliant!
Cons: Make no mistake...while the cooler on this card is incredible, especially for such a powerful card, the stock fan IS loud. I'll replace it soon when I find a fan that matches my build. The good news is that it doesn't change much when gaming, because the fan works on idle/gaming at near the same speeds.
To boot, this is a reference board! There is no custom pcb, no nifty doodads to ensure a higher clock. I was disappointed that the highest boost clock I could get on this was 1463, stable. I hoped for one of those that boost over 1.5k, but there is no guarantee about the silicon lottery! Memory on mine was hynix though, and I got 500 offset on the memory, so that's neat. Some of the air cooled products have a better chance of a better clock, which is a real bummer. This card has so much room for higher performance with this water cooler.
Other Thoughts: If you want a system that removes the heat from your case, is outrageously cold, and you have a nice 120mm fan to replace the stock one, this is the card for you. Just know that you sacrifice some potential overclock ability to get the thermals down with this card.
Overall, I'd take the 1463 boost clock I got over 1510 or so other cards have been getting, for the temperatures I'm getting. My oc'ed 4970k now games at 60c, peaking lower-mid 60s, meaning both my cpu/gpu are downright frosty for having these little clcs on them.
Also...BACKPLATE. Awesome. Thanks EVGA
(One last note...the card isn't all that pretty, but evga is giving away free shrouds that look much better. You have to pay shipping/handling though.)
This review is from: CRYORIG R1 Universal Dual Tower Heatsink for AMD/Intel CPU - White
Pros: AWESOME SIZE. It fits with tall memory! It's seriously great in every way, shape, and form. If you want high end performance, without the complexity or relatively poor performance of any/all lcs systems, this is the ticket! Great looks to boot!
Cons: The slim fan made a grinding noise. I have a FT02 (Silverstone) case, so the heatsink is rotated 90 degrees...I was bummed...
Other Thoughts: until I contacted Cryorig via email. They responded promptly to my issues, and sent a new fan out to me. Not only did this fix my issue (I had a bad thin fan, and the new fan does NOT make ticking noises) but I received a full box of the new fan, which came with some peripherals that didn't come with the heatsink. I am SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS COMPANY...THEY DESERVE YOUR MONEY. Get this...these guys are great!READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Great Size/Speed
Cons: None...maybe not as fast as higher end drives in benchmarks. I got this to run games off of...it's FAST compared to any hdd...nothing to complain about
Other Thoughts: Thanks Crucial! So happy!READ FULL REVIEW
