gateway?
Pros: It's a gateway, and it surprised me, I played around with it in best buy before buying it on newegg, It runs better than I thought it would, and it comes with 3gb or ram, which really helps with vista. As with all pre-built packaged computers there is a lot of proprietary software that isn't needed and just bogs the memory down. Either install a fresh copy of vista or xp or linux if you're into that kind of thing. Use vista manager to uninstall everything except the operating system then install your own software. The HDD is bigger than most which is useful, you may not have to get an external HDD
Cons: The video card is only an X1200 series, it could be better however for 699 it's a most excellent deal. Plays LOTRO on lower settings without a problem, not a gaming laptop but is good to "get you buy" in times when a desktop isn't a viable option.
Overall Review: for under 700, and being one of the cheaper than alot of other laptops, it's amazing, does what it needs to, and with a fresh copy of the OS or all the things they put on there taken off, it does everything and more.
horrible
Pros: None
Cons: I installed this on an AMD 3800+ cpu that was going to be used for simple internet and security cameras... it wouldn't run at all. The fan was really really quiet. it accomplished this by running at only 2k rpms. using mx2 thermal compound the cpu would idle at 55c. I set the mobo to auto shutoff at 75c just to be safe. Upon attempting to install windows XP the computer reset... thought maybe it was a fluke... nope did it again. and then again, finally I put the stock cooler on (which runs at 3k rpms) and haven't had a single problem since.
Overall Review: don't buy this unless you want to have a computer that sits on the bios all day and does nothing. or lap your cpu to allow for better heat transfer
Spyware on a cpu?
Pros: I've had this CPU for well over nearly two years and it runs great.
Cons: The person who said he got spyware after installing this CPU knows absolutely nothing. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Besides there is no way to put spyware on a processor.
Overall Review: Just so no one gets scared there is no way a processor can put spyware on your computer... yes the CPU does run everything, but that's it.
OC a low end?
Pros: To the reviewer who said that this doesn't seem to overclock well. You have to realize that this is a low end < $50 AMD CPU. and it is a windsor core as well. windsor is 90nm meaning the power consumption is higher, which in turns puts out more heat... the windsor cores aren't nearly as good as the brisbane. if you want to OC an AMD cpu then get the 5400+ black edition with the unlocked multi, or a brisbane core AM2.
Cons: none
Overall Review: I've had 6 AM2 CPUs Brisbane far outshines the Windsor
do some research
Pros: look below
Cons: look below
Overall Review: To the one guy who said that ATI cards work better with crossfire chipsets and Nvidia with SLI chipsets... this is true... if you are running in SLI or CF mode... otherwise it doesn't matter, in fact I've had better luck running my ATI cards on NVIDIA chipsets. and I tend to get better benchmarks when using say one ATI card on an NVIDIA chipset, then one ATI card on an ATI chipset. Do a little research and look at reviews before telling people what to buy and what not to buy. thank you
Amazing, but hot
Pros: This card is amazing... it can run anything I throw at it without a hitch, it only needed a new PSU and it began to show it's true potential.
Cons: It runs hot.... really really hot.... I had to buy a zalman V900 CU video card cooler just so I could play high end games without it shutting itself off due to heat.
Overall Review: Get some Artic Silver 5 and a better cooler and you'll be set.
