Pros: Fancy box
Cons: I wrote a lengthy review of this card a bit ago and I have to give an update.
Clean format - Fresh install of Windows 8 and the card works at the moment. BUT
Yes there is a but...
Finally figured out how to plug a musical instrument (guitar) in and the latency is horrible!
Ran a test and found it around 112ms!
Totally annoying and impossible to record in real time.
Another email to creative and this is the best response yet.
"Thank you for contacting Creative.
Latency is a common behavior for most audio applications"
Are you kidding me! The advertisement boasts about having "ultra low latency ... as low as 1ms"
Its YOUR application!
Nothing else is running.
Tried all the suggested responses with no change and its really disappointing and frustrating.
Other Thoughts: Going to rip this thing out and either use the onboard audio or the prior sound card I had.
So disappointing and so frustrated that you wait forever for a response from their tech support..
Save your hard earned money. I am surprised I made it this far without loosing it.
Pros: Fancy box
Looks good on the pictures
Cons: Where the start..
Installed under Windows 7 - OK it worked and seemed good.
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 oh this is where the nightmare begins folks! You can search the net for issues with this card and find endless amounts of people crying for help. I wish I had seen these issues and I am usually good about searching out the products.
Windows will not initialize the card. No sound.
Uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers - Nothing
Uninstalled drivers, removed card, changed positions of the card - Nothing
It sometimes displays as unknown, sometimes it shows up as the proper name. Either way no sound!
Contacted support and got the typical robotic answers.
Followed all directions and uploaded all specs as requested.
Wait and wait and wait and wait until I have to reply back to and ask what is going on! Again, robotic answers.
Finally had to format and wipe everything and reinstall Windows 7 so I could have sound. Works fine under Win7.
Of course since tech support don't understand that we like sitting around after paying a small fortune for a card and need to use our computers they have us wait more and even AFTER you advice them that you formatted and installed Windows 7 they give you some half a**ed response...
"Thank you for contacting Creative.
We can try to check on that info from Windows 8 as this is the current operating system used by our soundcard.
Yeah I have to keep it PG here but I wanted to put my foot through the monitor and toss the computer out the window.
"We have tested the soundcard using the our latest driver and was unable to see the same behavior as what you experienced on your system. This leaves us an impression that it can be a compatibility problem right after updating the operating system. May we check where did you originally purchased the soundcard?"
Uh yeah you tested it, that's all I keep hearing about is it being tested and it works. I know I am making this whole thing up! I have nothing else to do but sit here and write a review. I don't know whats worse the card or the tech support. Then to ask where I purchased it...well I purchased it right from here! Going to blame them next?
UGH Since I cant return Windows 8 (which I bought at the same time) looks like I'll have to return this card.
Other Thoughts: While trying to keep it clean...
I noticed the card doesn't light up. Is it supposed to?
How are you supposed to record? I see RCA inputs but no option to control the levels as Ive seen in pictures when searching around!!
It keeps getting better!
Please is Creative is reading all this and is still awake if you decide to reach out to me here please talk to me in a normal manner. I don't want to speak to a robot. I want to speak to someone who wants to see this issue fixed and will work to get it done!
This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII S524 - CPU Cooler with Aluminum Fins and 5 Heatpipes
Keeps the CPU cool
Moves a lot of air
Cons: If you want to install any more ram it can be a small project but it can be done.
The instructions are ok, they could be a bit more detailed when it comes to the the backing plate. I thought that plate was another adapter for another CPU at first look.
Other Thoughts: I would suggest is if you choose this cooler that you make sure it will fit in your tower if you're limited on space.
Also make sure you have everything in place and do a quick mock up of the install. Once you have applied the paste and start to install the cooler it gets tricky and sometimes you need an extra set of hands or if you have a bench setup to hold things in place.
I didn't like how the wire was routed from the fan. That's just my ocd kicking in on wires.
Finally, I realize this is setup to fit a large variety of CPUs but it seems that there is a lot of waste parts laying around after.
Still love the cooler though.
