IMPORTANT NEWS ON K272HUL

Acer K272HULbmiidp Black 27" WQHD 6ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS DCR 100,000,000:1(1,000:1) Built-in Speakers
Acer K272HULbmiidp Black 27" WQHD 6ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS DCR 100,000,000:1(1,000:1) Built-in Speakers

Pros: Awesome picture quality....lived up to very good tech reviews....pixel density perfect for a 27" screen....will run at 60fps at full resolution no problem like 4K and LOOKS like 4K because of the awesome pixel density. Be aware to get the full resolution, you MUST be connected either using HDMI 1.4 or better,or, "display port", ( which can also be called "thunderbolt" using a mini-display port connector ). The other, older types of connection do NOT have the necessary bandwidth to provide the full resolution.

Cons: You MUST enter the settings on the monitor and TURN OFF the "video detect" setting,or, the screen will turn GRAYSCALE while in use !!! I was STUMPED...problem existed using HDMI 1.4 or Thunderbolt, ( i.e. "mini display port" ), connection and with current NVidia driver. I found the solution on a little known website and NOWHERE ELSE, including Acer...they should be NOTIFIED and buyers should be WARNED !!! Once "fixed", monitor is AWEWSOME and a great value.

Overall Review: I love this monitor....especially the pixel density being perfect for 27 inches....viewing 1440p video ,or, upscaled 1080p is amazing !! I want to buy another and probably will !!

CineRAID CR-H252B Dual 3.5 Bay Quiet USB 3.0 RAID Enclosure (No Drives)

Pros: good price

Cons: mentioned disconnects probably user error

Overall Review: ...with Windows 7, ANY external USB3 device MUST have the proper settings selected, or you WILL get random disconnects. Go to Device Manager, select "USB3 Root Hub", UNCHECK box under "Power Settings" tab that lets Windows shut off USB3 devices when it wants to. THEN, go to the USB3 Disk itself,(still in Device Manager), and select the "Policies" tab. Select "write caching", which is the choice that makes you MANUALLY have to disconnect a USB3 device FIRST, before unplugging. NOW, you should NOT get any more "random disconnects".

Appears to be a great value

Pros: blows away 1080p !...the combination of 27 inches and 2560 x 1440p resolution gives just the right "pixel density"......amazing picture quality, ( once adjusted). A $299 price for this size and quality is AWESOME! Viewing actual 1440p videos online was STUNNING!!...esp. compared to 1080p,0r, 720p. NO LAG perceived during gaming. I still cannot get over the massive quality improvement over my 1080p TN monitor...esp. at THIS PRICE ! Achieved full resolution with ONE HDMI 1.4 cable !!!....monitor reported "no signal " when I tried to feed it via display port cable....do not know why.

Cons: horrible manual...useless....NO info regarding requirements to achieve full resolution and necessary cable(s) to do that. NO explanation of how to operate buttons...which is VERY NECESSARY !! Picture color is GARBAGE right out of box !!! ALL the "preset color" scenes are tinted YELLOW,or, OFF WHITE....UGH !! Once I turned up blue and reduced red and green to ~ 20% each, the picture became AWESOME !....white became WHITE ! delivery was fast this time via the free shipping....unlike OTHER times.

Overall Review: Do not know why their are TWO HDMI ports on the monitor....I assumed 2 HDMI cables were needed coming from a video card to provide full resolution.....however, I get full resolution with just ONE 1.4 HDMI cable. If you can "daisy chain" another K272HUL via the second HDMI port , and get full resolution, there is NO information provided. Connecting to my Asus G750JW laptop using the display port DID NOT WORK !! I used a "proper" display port 1.2 cable with a mini- connector on one end and a regular connector on the other. Screen just went black and laptop froze. Fearing THAT connection was the ONLY way to get the full resolution, I almost RMA'd the monitor. I was SHOCKED to see the full WQHD 2560X1440P resolution via the single 1.4 HDMI cable......I have NO IDEA what is going on and there should be more information provided concerning this !!!
