Pros: Could be used as a paperweight. The red board looks good as a wall ornament.

Pros: Two weeks ago I made a BIG mistake: I bought an Archos A101 tablet for myself AND an iPad2 for my wife. After years of using Linux, supporting open source and using Archos media players etc I thought I made a good choice. Ok, so maybe the Archos doesn't have two cameras but I can definitely use the one it has, for my video chatting needs, right? The ipad2 has a "square" 4:3 monitor while the Archos comes with a "modern" widescreen and this must be good, right? Using Android means that you get access to an overwhelming number of applications that are not controlled by the "big brother company" like the apps in the Apple store, right? A tablet made by a company like Archos with such an extensive experience in making media players is going to make watching movies on its tablet a pleasure, right? Well, WRONG, all WRONG!!!

Cons: Screen color, contrast and viewing angle are UNACCEPTABLE! Screen response to tapping, scrolling etc are horrible, no comparison to the natural feel you get on the ipad. No real google android market (big brother is Archos now). No software for video calling on Google, Skype, yahoo messenger. Only Fring (Probably the worst video chat software I ever saw) that doesn't support video for google or yahoo and reel portal (amateurish, slow, buggy, maybe in 2-3 years it is going to worth trying it). Your ipad friends can "see their phone calls" while you are texting away... How embarrassing... You have to pay extra for plugin from Archos to watch mpeg2 and listen to AC-3 multichannel audio!!! On the same wireless network (my home network) ipad2 is 4-10 times faster browsing the internet or downloading files than the Archos 101. Widescreen makes writing while holding the tablet impossible. you have to rest it on a table etc to use the installed keyboard. Battery life SEVERELY OVERRATED!!!

Overall Review: Don't get me wrong. I am not an Apple fan-boy... I have never owned a Mac (long time Linux user - since Slackware 3 at least), iPhone (no, prefer Android on my phone!) or even an ipod (my mp3 player is actually Archos!) This machine made it clear for me that the Ipad2 is dirt CHEAP for what it can do and how it does it!!!! I'd rather pay $500 for a productivity and entertainment machine that does what I want easily and does it so enjoyably than pay half that for a paperweight. It is as simple as that! decided to give this expensive toy (this is what my wife calls it: toy) to my 15 month old son. I hope he finds it more interesting that I did...
