Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: It's dead silent, the quietest case I owned. Can't tell if the machine is on or off. Plenty of space, easy to get in. Looks great too.

Cons: Heavy. But it's actually good, because this is what makes it quiet.

D-Link PowerLine DHP-601AV AV2 AV1000 Gigabit Starter Kit, up to 1000Mbps
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

5 out of 5 eggs Worked really well for me 07/30/2015

This review is from: D-Link PowerLine DHP-601AV AV2 AV1000 Gigabit Starter Kit, up to 1000Mbps

Pros: Ease of installation, reliability, low latency, speed.

Cons: Not sure... it would be nice if they were smaller.

Other Thoughts: I guess I am lucky and the wiring in my building is good. These adapters paired up painlessly and I cannot find a workload to max them out - I use them to connect two Wi-Fi end-points and when I test file transfers I hit Wi-Fi limit first.

SIIG CE-KV0411-S1 DisplayPort 2-Port KVM Switch
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

4 out of 5 eggs Usable 02/11/2015

This review is from: SIIG CE-KV0411-S1 DisplayPort 2-Port KVM Switch

Pros: It does what the description says. I use it to switch between a Windows desktop and a Linux laptop (Lenovo x220) plugged into a docking station.

The unit is of solid construction. It's all metal, no plastic and has a nice quality feel to it.

People with docking stations sometimes complain about display port KVM switches. One important thing they (may be?) forgetting is that laptops have a BIOS setting for the default video output on boot. It needs to be set to "Dockign Station Video" in my case. Otherwise you get no output until the OS boots - and this depends on the OS/video card too.

Cons: What I hate about this KVM is that it tries to be too smart: when there's no video/USB on PC1, it automatically switches to PC2 and vice versa.

This is unbelivably stupid. If I need to reboot my Linux box, it jumps to Windows, so I need to switch back, and switching back is always clumsy because the boot process on Linux doesn't keep the constant DisplayPort output, so it actually may jump back to Windows 1-2 times before I get a stable output with Linux login. Ughhh... Drives me nuts.

Another annoying part about that is that with both computers asleep, it's impossible to tell which one will wake up if I hit the keyboard. They should have had a solid, persistent, simple hardware flip-switch: PC1 or PC2.
