Blazing Fast !!!

SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128N/AM 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Notebook Upgrade Kit
SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128N/AM 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Notebook Upgrade Kit

Pros: Blazing Fast !!! Yes, that's three whole exclamation points; that's how fast it is. Samsung's controller is not only fast, it's fast across all block sizes, random & sequential. Some drives are only fast for compressible types of data (mainly the popular Sandforce controller based drives); but this drive is fast for everything. Should be reliable since Samsung makes all of the internals.

Cons: None

Overall Review: It's not as cheap as most of the Sandforce drives, but neither are the intel SSDs which are also considered reliable. Samsung sells many SSDs to OEM manufactures (like apple & dell); so chances are they've been designed w/ reliability in mind (to reduce repair/replacement costs for OEMs).

Decent card, but Don't expect to get the rebate though!

ASUS GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
ASUS GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: The GTX 660, much like the GTX 460 is a good card if you want decent mid-tier gaming performance without producing a lot of heat & noise.

Cons: ASUS is still using 4myrebate.com which is actually owned by Systemax (who is the parent company of Tiger Direct & Circuit City as well). They are notorious for not honoring rebates. They have you fill out a request to send in a rebate electronically, which you then mail in with the UPC, etc.. like a traditional rebate. Because they start it electronically they leave it in Processing when you check it, so you think it's being put through the system. Then after you realize it's been quite a long time and still no rebate, you check the status. Then you find out they have denied it for every reason in the book. You try to contact them and all you get is a automated response telling you to call a phone number that makes you wait on hold for an hour before you give up. Point being, this card WOULD have been 4 or 5 stars; but ASUS made the big mistake of using a shady rebate company from a company with a crooked history. It's not worth the hassle & aggravation involved.

Overall Review: ASUS if you're reading this, get your act together! STOP using 4myrebate. Until then I won't be factoring in the rebate to the cost for ASUS when comparing products to other brands.

GB's Ultra Durable does it again

GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD4H LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD4H LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: After going through every brand of motherboard multiple times over the years, I've come to find a genuine respect for Gigabyte's Ultra Durable line of boards. I've never had a hardware problem with them. They've always run cool & reliably. The drivers have always been a breeze and worked well. The best part is the price. For the price the UD boards have always represented the best bang for the buck. If you're someone looking for a high quality motherboard, but don't want to pay the premium for the boards loaded with features you don't need; then look no further than the UD boards. They have top-tier quality at mid-tier prices.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Good news, everyone! This is a great motherboard!

Huge maps, Great Graphics, Fun Fun FUN

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition PC Game
Battlefield 3 Limited Edition PC Game

Pros: I've been playing Battlefield games since the original 1942. For a while they seemed to lose their way (Bad Company series which were console exclusive); but with BF3, D.I.C.E. came back strong. They made a game that is not only gorgeous, but immerse and enjoyable in many ways that the original BF1942 and BF2 were. My favorite Battlefield game is still Battlefield Vietnam. I think it's because I loved being able to play fun songs from the era via the radio in the jeeps or choppers; while people piled in. It really created excitement, like everyone was rolling out together. Hopefully, they'll release a modern game with some of the elements that BF:V had that made it so fun, down the line.

Cons: You can't play music from the vehicles like Battlefield Vietnam.

Stay away from cheap ASUS boards

ASUS M4A87T AM3 AMD 870 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M4A87T AM3 AMD 870 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I'm giving this board 2 stars because it did manage to last about 6 months, and ASUS has decent drivers. Other than that, there are no redeeming qualities.

Cons: I have had nothing but problems with ASUS budget boards. The tend to have quality control issues, and when you run into a problem (which is almost always after the return period ends) you're forced to deal with ASUS Indiana's RMA. NOTE: ASRock is owned and made by ASUS as well, so this review applies to them too. All it takes is a quick google to see how unhappy people are with ASUS support, especially the Indiana division which handles everything but the top-tier ASUS Republic of Gamer boards. On more than one occasion they have sent back a broken board to me claiming to have fixed it, or physically broken the board themselves (blaming shipping, even though it was packed so well it would have to be run over with a steamroller to hurt the mobo) and said it didn't qualify for RMA because of that. If you happen to do a RMA with ASUS, then make sure to TAKE PICTURES of the board before you ship it, as well as how you shipped it, to lessen any frustration if they do it to you. Their top of the line boards, the Republic of Gamer series have been good however. And the ASUS California support who deals with those motherboards is actually pleasant to work with. How one can be so dysfunctional and the other can be so pleasant is hard to grasp given they're under the same corporate banner. BOTTOM LINE: If you need a budget or mid-end motherboard avoid ASUS. Look at GigaByte or MSI instead.

Overall Review: p.s. ASUS please don't respond to this review and try to have me contact you. I've had about as much contact with you as I can stand for one lifetime.

The Rolls-Royce of PSUs

Pros: #1 This PSU is built like a bank vault. It is SOLID. #2 This PSU is COMPLETELY SILENT. The only way you can hear the fan is by taking off the side of the case and putting your ear right next to it. It's based off the Seasonic X 1050 PSU; but Be Quiet! has used all top of the line Nippon Chemi-Con capacitors in their design (versus a mix of Nippon CC & Hitachi in the Seasonic). One major difference between it and the Seasonic, is Be Quiet! has put extra care into engineering out any electrical noises (those high pitched squeals and buzzes that sometimes plague power supplies). And it shows, the PSU is completely silent. In addition to the abundance of top-tier capacitors, it also uses a server grade Yunpen line filter. This PSU is more expensive than others, but you are paying for the quality & quality control. The fan by itself is worth the upgrade from the Seasonic it's based on, all of the other improvements are just icing on the cake. The cables are plentiful and there should be no problem finding one the right length for your task, whether building in a Mini-ATX or a full sized ATX case. The plug in with a confident click and feel solid. I didn't need the 1,000W but it's nice to have it for the future. I expect this PSU to last for a long time considering how premium it's build quality is.

Cons: None. This is most likely the best PSU you can buy right now, and for quite a bit of time into the future.

Overall Review: It is more expensive, but when you're spending this much on a PSU it's worth it to go the extra mile to get the very best.
