XBOX case the way it should have been
Pros: Keeps xbox running cooler. Very quiet and easily modifiable. Aluminum case also helps transfer away heat. Sturdy construction and kit provides ALMOST all parts necessary to complete the job. Excellent for 1st gen xbox's that required more power (non Falcon/Jasper), but still is possible for newer gen consoles. Has the feel of a desktop and rightfully so as the xbox functions almost like one (DVD, msn mesenger, games, netflix, home entertainment media center). Nice case to prevent the RROD, or repair xbox's and use this case as replacement. Has foam sound dampener glued to the areas where the DVD ROM goes to decrease the sound vibration when spinning. If you are into case modification and love xbox's, this newly designed case is for you.
Cons: If you like the factory size of the xbox, you won't like this case as it is significantly larger. If you are not technically savoy breaking down the original xbox, this will be challenging and you will need the tools to do the job. This kit does not provide the disassembly tools. This kit only has the parts to assemble the new body and not tear down the original xbox. You will need to buy the screw tools at your local hardware store as well as an xbox case tool sold online. There is a design flaw, that I can't lay the box flat horizontally. The case positions the dvd rom to lay one way and not the other so the hooks that hold the disk when vertical is on the opposite side. But this case enables me to leave it vertical as the rom now lays flat for the new case design. I do not know if the newer model xbox versions are currently the same so I can't say you will have the same problem if you have a newer console.
Overall Review: I built two of these already and use them for everything such as LAN parties as well as play movies/games. I also tossed out the included internal hood and replaced the factory heat sinks and put the largest heat sinks that can fit in the case/motherboard and used heat sink fans too. Also replaced the 120 mm fan with a more quiet one. The fan it came with was already quiet but wanted to replace it with a higher quality one. You could go the route of water cooling as it is equipped to do so if you please but I find that cumbersome for transport (LAN gaming) so I chose the heat sink route. Currently on one machine, I practically run 24/7 with no problems as it is modified to never RROD.
Very Good Chip
Pros: Overclocked to 4 GHz and is very fast at that speed. No problems whatsoever. Package came with a very nice heatsink, but I installed with the V6 for this build. Running crossfire with asus matrix 5870s platinum X2, Corsair 12gb RAM and maxing out video in games - So beautiful!
Cons: The price when purchased.
Overall Review: Use some good thermal paste. Go with Noctua as it is non conductive. It is made for OC chips like this one.
xbox lan party
Pros: worked great for LAN parties
Cons: none so far
Overall Review: I used this for Halo 2 LAN parties. Used on a linksys switch as an access point. Wired 7 xboxs together (5-1st gen xbox's and 2-360's). One 360 was wireless on it's own wireless adapter with One 1st gen xbox with xbox wireless adapter, both wireless to this linksys access point adapter. The switch with this linksys access point was placed on the second floor with wired xbox's while remaining wireless xbox's were on the first floor. This gaming wireless adapter works flawless. Don't care if this uses WEP instead of WPA as some others commented. This is strictly for LAN and not for over the internet use.
Works Fantastic!
Pros: Used in an office setting and it handles great. With all ports being used, no one has had any complaints.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Bravo on an excellent product Lynksis
