18 Months and still good

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWINX1024-3200C2

Pros: Top-notch RAM, great timing too!(2-3-3-6). You can't go wrong with Newegg or Corsair. I have my setup now for 18 months and no problems.

Cons: Was expensive then (June 2005) and expensive now. I don't think the price has dropped a dime!

Fast, but inefficient

EPSON Stylus NX515 C11CA48231 Up to 36 ppm Black Print Speed 5760 x 1440 dpi Color Print Quality Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB / Wi-Fi InkJet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer

Pros: Pros are pretty much what it is known for (check out reviews on CNet). It is very fast; don't stand in front of it while it is churning out paper if your tray is not set up, the paper may actually shoot out at you. It is prints at a good quality, especially considering the aforementioned speed. Color is nice and sharp. Scanner works fast and really well. Wi-Fi is especially nice, and the connection, once established, is really stable. Ink cartridges are very easy to replace, and fairly cheap too. Accepts used paper pretty well, I like to print on the other side of old documents to reuse paper. Software is very clean, not a lot of "cruftware" (i.e. unnecessary nonsense). Menu system is really smooth, the LCD is very helpful when navigating features/setup, and the system gives you a lot of options (complicated for some, but I like the flexibility.) If it weren't for the ink issue (see cons, below), this printer would get at least 4 stars. On another note, tech support is not very helpful

Cons: My goodness this thing blasts through ink cartridges. I don't print too much (just for school, only black I have barely broached a 2nd 500-page ream of paper) yet I have gone through several of Epson's "High-Capacity Black Ink Cartridges." CNet claimed, if memory serves, 3.1 cents/page avg print cost, and that this number was about average for printers these days. Epson's tech support claims that each of their high-cap cartridges should produce about 400 pages worth of printing. I don't know where they dug this figure out. I keep it on draft mode most of the time to conserve ink, but (as mentioned above) I have gone through *3* high-cap cartridges and the original cartridge it came with. One of the high-cap ones didn't even last 150 pages, it just suddenly ran out after I came back from a month's vacation. Tech supports explanation: "if you don't use it enough it may dry out." After a month? I'm still on the original color cartridges and it has been 5 months!

Overall Review: CONCLUSION: It's a great printer, and since it was so cheap, I would still recommend. But do your homework and check out some (reliable) web reviews before you decide. Hopefully you will have better luck with the ink cartridges, which are fairly cheap (less than $20 for the high-cap cartridges, which I would not bother with if I were you). But my understanding is this is how printer companies get you: sell you a good printer at close to its cost to build, and then make the money back push their ink on you.

Pros: Great processor, great price. Can't go wrong with Newegg or AMD. I've had this setup since June 2005 and everything is running great.

Cons: Negatory
