New?
Pros: This motherboard seems quite solid... I bought this in a combo along with the e5200 and have it running at stock at the moment with 4GB of G.Skill DDR2 800. The on board video is actually quite powerful. I Was able to play Doom 3 at 1024x768 on high settings, and I'm confident I could have turned them up without any trouble. That was a very pleasant surprise. Love I/O... DVI, VGA, and HDMI means this thing has a ton of flexibility, and having onboard firewire/e-sata is nice as well. It's quite packed for a Matx motherboard.
Cons: I looked all over the place for benchmarks and reviews on this motherboard... I wasn't really able to find much, if anything, which I'm assuming means this board is rather new. I saw a lot of little press release pages for it, announcing it's "unveiling," etc. Still, that's not that important.
Overall Review: Gigabyte is awesome. This is a good buy.
Strange
Pros: I guess this lets xbox compete with the ps3...
Cons: People complain about the ps3 costing 600 bucks, with built in blu ray. But then you turn around and look at the xbox which is 400 bucks for the one with an HD, and then you pay about 200 bucks for an add on HD-DVD drive, and what does that end up costing you...
Overall Review: I guess it's nice that you have the option of upgrading, instead of being stuck with it out of the box.. but unless you want to play halo 3 on 4 dvds, you better have one of these...
Easy installation and good cheap upgrade over stock fan
Pros: Cheap (read: inexpensive) Performs well compared to the stock cooler both in terms of cooling performance, and noise. Very easy install (other thoughts)
Cons: No cons
Overall Review: I feel like the primary factor when choosing a replacement cpu cooler is the ease of installation. A lot of coolers that fit multiple sockets have replacement back plates, etc, that require access to the back of the motherboard. This one is really simple though, so don't let that be a concern when purchasing this.
Great upgrade
Pros: I picked this for a replacement machine for my parents. The old one had an old Intel e5200 dual core, and this thing is an absolute beast compared to that old chip. For the price, this chip is a good performer.
Cons: The included cooler really isn't very good.
Overall Review: Seeing as this will be on a second floor where in the summers it can routinely be in the 80s inside (if the A/C isn't used) I bought a replacement cooler from Cooler Master (the Hyper 101, I believe it's called). That cooler is a good cheap upgrade to the stock cooler
Not bad
Pros: Relatively quiet, pretty fast - even over a sata to usb adapter. both worked well under windows 7 release candidate (64 bit). I don't know what all the other whining is about, but these are quite good.
Cons: opening and closing of the tray is both slow and noisy, but that's not a big deal as long as it works. what matters is how it reads and writes the dvds
Overall Review: ordered a couple of these to replace my single IDE dvd burner. These look good and simple and work well.
Don't spend more money - get this
Pros: Been rolling with this and an AMD phenom II 720 BE for a little while now, and that and 4gb of mem is an excellent combination. No problems running any video games so far on this best... Fallout 3 at 1680x1050 all maxed out runs excellent, FEAR 2 all maxed out at same res. I've skipped crysis... it's a beautiful game but it's too much of a hog - plus Farcry 2 looks just as amazing if you ask me, and this card runs that perfectly.
Cons: When I first powered on my system with this and a 550 watt OCZ fatal1ty power supply, the system would post and reboot endlessly without giving video output. I was so confused at first, but I ended adjusting and reseating my memory and that fixed it, so I can't really say it's a con of this card - should probably not even be saying this here. Also, you may notice only having 512 mb of memory on this card if you use a higher resolution, but no biggie, just go grab one of those 1GB models and it should handle it without trouble.
Overall Review: These 4870s are THE bang for the buck. I can't imagine that twice the price (or more) for a 285 or even the extra price for a 275 from NV is worth the extra frames in games... but don't get me wrong, I love NV and I love ATI - when it comes down to it, they're a match made in heaven even if they're competitors. :)
