MSI GT Series - 15.6" - Intel Core i7-4800MQ - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M - 8 GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop (GT60 Dominator-424 )
MSI GT Series - 15.6" - Intel Core i7-4800MQ - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M - 8 GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop (GT60 Dominator-424 )

Pros: - Performance to size ratio - performance to price ratio - 2 hdd slot - built in DVD (well I guess you can get one for $20 now) - keyboard quality - 2 year warranty

Cons: - build quality suffer in this version (more on this) - fan is noisy as ever - where is the Esata port? - 3 displays (4 total)? Why?

Overall Review: I am disappointed with this MSI laptop. I have been purchasing their equipment for more than a decade and this is one of the first disappointment I had with their product. My model is GT60-660 not GT60-424. Mine has i7-4810 (vs i7-4800) and 12gb (vs 8gb) for about $50 more. My first disappointment is the build quality. Some how the quality has suffered dramatically between this new model and my GT60-ONC. From a quick look they are as follow: 1. The aluminum parts of the body feels much thinner and flexes much easier (maybe its just me...). 2. The LED light that was on the headphone jack had been removed (used to be nice to be able to find it easy in the dark). 3. No blank for the SD slot to keep the dust out. 4. ID badge for system description used to be very specific, but now its very generic and does not even tell me what I have as CPU model, memory, HDD, etc. 5. Where is the ESATA port? 6. Only 4 USB ports. I have no idea what other compromises there are internally but there is definitely a cut back on some of the premium features this laptop had. Some changes I would like to see are: a. 3 external video ports? How many people are going to actually hook up 3 monitors to a laptop? Nice options but how useful is that to most of us? One HDMI is fine. b. The ESATA was taken off to make room for the video port. Are you kidding me? As a power user I use ESATA drive as back up and data drive. They are considerably faster than USB 3 devices. c. Windows 8 without the touch screen is an epic fail... good thing windows 7 works with this. d. Could use more USB ports, I know it is drain in power but I rarely run this on battery. Even with all the draw backs and some changes for the worse, this laptop is probably still the BEST laptop you can get for the money. It is powerful as a well equipped desk top and lighter and has better features and hardware than the other laptops of the same class and price out there.
