Sony Walkman NWZ-E364 8GB Digital Media Player, Red - NWZ-E364RED
Sony Walkman NWZ-E364 8GB Digital Media Player, Red - NWZ-E364RED

Pros: I want to put the cons first because they were my first impression, but w/e. -Sound Quality. It blows away all Apple players. -Functional UI, with a more customizable EQ than Apple's mp3 players. -A Back and Options button. I can't tell you how sorely I missed these on the scrollwheel iPod. -Surprisingly light weight and pretty small. -8GB storage -Good battery life -Price

Cons: First off, the packaging is pretty scary looking. The box that holds the mp3 player is covered by a thin pouch of bubble wrap and that's put in a beat up shipping envelope. Not sure who's responsibility this was, UPS or Newegg. My walkman came out fine so maybe it was enough. Though the other review states that his product was defective, so be warned with a refurbished product its a bit of a diceroll, thankfully there's a limited warranty. -MISSING SOFTWARE. My Walkman was unlucky enough to have setup.exe wiped off the memory, so I had to find it manually in the Sony site, and to my dismay, Sony Media Manager didn't recognize the Walkman. Luckily though Sony Medio Go did, and its far superior to Sony Media Manager, along with Sony Content Transfer. So just remember to dl Sony Media Go. Which brings me to my next point: -Media Go is inferior to iTunes. Though this can be partially remedied by simply dropping all your iTunes music into the Walkman with Content Transfer. To edit the stuff in your Walkman you need to use Media Go though. -You CAN'T MAKE PLAYLISTS via your Walkman. You have to do it in iTunes or MediaGo and transfer them over. -Cheaper construction quality than iPod Nano. Its plastic, the Nano is metal. Both are light weight. -A bit bulkier than an iPod Nano and less aesthetically pleasing. -Headphones that came with it are trash, in that they are worse than the Apple Earbuds. But then again the Apple earbuds actually beat out tons of budget earbuds on the market in sound quality imo. They are decently clean, spacious, but severely lack bass. These have a surprising amount of bass but just have a strange and not full sound curve, with terrible build quality. The build quality reminds me of the buds you would get on the airplane. -Ugly UI. Its functional but reminds me of a free flip phone's UI. -Odd placement of volume buttons -If you're a guy, take note that this player is not actually Red, and is actually nothing like the color displayed on the Newegg.com pictures. Its a combination of Dark Red and Purple, and looks something like Maroon, which is what I tell people it is. Its obviously a Red made for girls but its Purple hues aren't so incredibly overbearing that it becomes impossible to justify a guy using it. -Lack of a scroll wheel/touchpad. -No sports clip

Overall Review: So you can tell there's a lot more cons than pros, why did this get 4 stars? Well let me say that right after buying this I found my 4th gen ipod nano, and continue to use this Walkman, because if you really want all those extra features, software, and bells and whistles, you would use your smartphone. An mp3 player is for music on the go and during exercise, and in these areas the only thing that matters is sound quality, price because it needs to be easily replaced if it breaks during exercise, size, and battery life. The Walkman beats the iPod Nano in all these areas, other than size. Its also half the price of a manufacturer refurbished iPod Nano 4th gen, so keep that in mind. So for 30 bucks you get an mp3 player that sounds great, is light weight, and has 8gb of storage. In my opinion that deserves 4 stars. It didn't get 5 stars because it has tons of flaws which might matter a lot more to some people, so its no a universally recommended product. Durability is something I'll have to update the review for.
