Great box on the cheap
Pros: has everything you need for a simple low-buck workstation
Cons: the GOS operating system is terrible. It is slow and crashes all the time. I wiped it and put Kubuntu on this machine after an hour.
Overall Review: Cheap and reliable once you put kubuntu on it.
works
Pros: works great, i bought 5 for a erver farm and have had no problems with them.
Cons: The included power cord is not adequate. after leaving the machines running for a about a minute, the power cord becomes warm to the touch. while none failed I replaced them all with heavy duty cords to be sure. Also they seem to run rather hot, but with heavy duty servers this is to be expected.
Overall Review: fit great and had no problems they just don't 'seem' very heavy duty. guess i can't complain though after 4 months and no problems.
cheap and quick
Pros: so far so good. running 8 of these in Raid 5 with an areca card
Cons: Of the nine i ordered, one seems to have problems
Overall Review: wouldnt it be nice if HDs were reliable?
works
Pros: works, its fast and cheap
Cons: windows vista rated it slower than my 2gb pc5300???
Overall Review: you get what you pay for i guess
awesome drive best upgrade/$
Pros: speedy fast quiet and lots of space. and cheap. I have ordered 3 of these and they have all performed flawlessly so far.
Cons: not free?
Overall Review: so far so good, we'll see how long the drives last as my users work their computers pretty hard.
looks good
Pros: small uses POE, high quality, low cost
Cons: does not support WAP or any dynamic security when used as a repeater or bridge. WEP security is insufficient for my organization as it is hacked in about 2 sec. Also i bought 2 of these and one had an issue where the unit rebooted on every configuration change.
Overall Review: Downloading the latest firmware fixed the issue where the unit would reboot on every configuration change. 3com acknowledged that this was an issue for the shipped version of the firmware for some units. Make sure you upgrade to the latest firmware from 3com's site before putting this unit in use. Support was helpful and responded quickly that this unit does not support WPA as a repeater. Its pretty ridiculous that this is not supported since WEP is so insecure.
