LG Internal 24x Super Multi with M-DISC Support SATA Model GH24NSC0B
LG Internal 24x Super Multi with M-DISC Support SATA Model GH24NSC0B

Pros: - Dropped in no problem. 5 minute job. - Plain and muted face. (Pro for me.) - Immediately recognized in Windows 8.1 64-bit. - Burns DVDs and CDs at specified speeds. - Driver is good/update not necessary. - Purchased for $13 on sale, would buy again for other builds, even at full price, as it's replacing a one year old, very similar ASUS that died long before it's time.

Cons: - None. One month in on this drive. Over 1 year in on same drive, purchased separately, in different rig. No issues or performance degradation to report. I feel as though many products that users generally about and forget about if they work fine get overlooked when it comes time to review, and the result is an unfair negative impact on the review score. That being said, I told myself that when buying products like this, for example RAM, DVD-RW drives, CPU coolers, I'd review whether good or bad. This review is a product of that decision.

Overall Review: Excellent quality for the home user/builder. Truly plug and play, and hassle-free. As the title says, purchase with confidence.

Fast, Reliable, Bang for the buck

Crucial MX100 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT256MX100SSD1
Crucial MX100 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT256MX100SSD1

Pros: Benchmarks to factory specifications Quick and Easy installation Great GB/$ ratio General reliability of Micron products

Cons: Not technically as fast as others in the same price bracket (if the others achieve their rated speeds, that is)

Overall Review: I purchased this drive after going through two consecutive bad PNY Optima 240gb SSDs. Needless to say, I was worried. However, it didn't take me long to realize that this drive was going to be a winner. The Windows 8.1 install went flawlessly with an i5-470K on a MSI Z87-G43. After installation and filling the drive to about 75% capacity (where I will leave it), I ran benchmarks and was happy to see that the drive achieved rated speeds when tested. Micron, Crucial's parent company, has managed to fit more data onto a single wafer, which is why the MX100 comes in at such a great price point for it's size and performance. Time will tell, but I am confident based on the great engineering and past experience with Micron/Crucial products that this drive will last a long time, and maintain performance with proper maintenance. Purchase with confidence.

First drive bad, second one super fast.

PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Benchmarks faster than the Samsung EVO using Samsung Magician. -Price/gb is nice on these drives. -RMA and technical support work very well. Something of a rarity these days.

Cons: -First drive I received had issues (bad data cells), could not RMA through Newegg due to rebate. Thankfully, PNY RMA worked well. -Speeds are not the fastest possible, but adequate for the price -SMI controller is not quite as quick as SandForce, but each controller has it's fans...

Overall Review: I initially purchased this SSD to run my OS from and store a few slow loading games. The OS install went poorly and it turned out that the drive had errors. I tried RMAing through Newegg, but could not as I had already sent in the rebate. Thankfully PNY tech support and the RMA process through them was smooth and easy. I actually received the replacement drive only 2 business days after they received my bad drive. I am very happy with the new drive. As mentioned, the drive actually benchmarks faster than the more costly Samsung EVO. Now I just use it as program and game storage for anything I want to load (near) instantly. I would buy this drive again, even with the bad first drive, but only if on sale. If another drive of the same size was the same price, I would probably go with the other drive.
