4 out of 5 eggs 3 Monitors Selling Point but Also a Negative 04/20/2014

This review is from: ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance LGA 1150 Intel H87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Three Monitors. Quality motherboard and no problems getting items hooked up or working. Documentation is good.

Cons: To run three monitors one has to split it out between, HDMI, DVI and VGA - DSub. I erroneously (when purchasing it) believed that the 2 HDMI ports could be used. Frankly the second HDMI port (not the one next to the DVI port but the farther one is a HDMI *in* port) is simply a point of confusion.

That port (the HDMI in) I believe is why others have erroneously said that HDMI doesn't work on this motherboard; because they plug in a monitor expecting HDMI out when it is (unbeknownst) to them a HDMI in port.

IMHO HDMI in is a waste of a port. I would rather they create a motherboard with three HDMI out ports and not even have HDMI out nor VGA.

Other Thoughts: Had one monitor, a new dell off of the HDMI out and it would stop working when the monitor would go to sleep. I could hear the motherboard 'ding' that it lost a connection and almost immediately `ding` that it found a connection. After it finally went to sleep, 7 out of ten times the motherboard would never recognize the monitor and I would have to cycle on/off/restart/start to get it to `re`-recognize the monitor. Finally I put in a different Dell monitor. I am unsure if it is the motherboard or the monitor (or both) which caused the problem.

Pros: Installed and is up and running to this day with no problems 4 months later.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It is unknown why they are recertified.

I purchase a lot of computers/monitors and it seems like the failure rate is about 10%. Recently returned a Dell monitor which I swear they never checked, but the replacement came back fine. So if one expects an issue that is a better tack to take when buying refurb/recert products so check the return/replacement policy before buying in case the item needs to be returned.

Pros: No build issues with all the memory (multiple) purchased and they worked with my Intel Motherboard snapping into place. Have used computer over a month with the memory and there have been no blue screens on Windows 8/8.1.

Cons: None
