TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050H 500GB/SLC 8GB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Great for older systems still running Windows XP 03/22/2014

This review is from: TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050H 500GB/SLC 8GB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD)

Pros: I purchased 3 of these from a local vendor. The older systems I put them into are still running Windows XP. Performance improvement was very noticeable on these systems, and I don't have to deal with issues of alignment that SSDs have on XP. Great cost savings compared to my normally installing an Intel or Samsung SSD for TRIM support.

Cons: I don't trust UPS for delivering hard drives

Other Thoughts: I will post again if there are any issues with the drives, but 3 months, and they're still performing well.

These are very tiny drives and have to be packaged well. That's why I purchased them from a local vendor, since I don't trust how UPS delivers packages.

ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0 LGA 775 VIA PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: This board has proven to be a reliable workhorse since I first purchased two in 2008. It's now 2013, and they're both working fine. I purchased it primarily for AGP support, as well as PATA and SATA-2

Cons: It's a combo board that only has 2 DDR2,and 2 DDR memory slots. It only supports up to DDR2-667. It can't be overclocked very well.

Other Thoughts: I was thinking of buying a couple more of these boards recently to provide a home for some E2160, and unfortunately they're no longer available. Although there appears to be another ASRock board that has AGP PATA (but only DDR and SATA -1150)

Pros: If you want to keep your AGP and DDR memory, while upgrading your CPU socket 478 to socket 775, this motherboard does the job. It isn't exactly the fastest, but it does work. If you are thinking to upgrade later to PCI-E, skip this board, and buy a low end PCI-E card and motherboard combo.

Cons: Very limited documentation. I also had to use a PCI ethernet card because whenever I used the built-in ethernet card, I kept getting corrupted files during my burn in tests and OS patching (windows update).

Other Thoughts: I have this board overclocking Pentium Dual cores (E2160, E2200) as well as Core 2 Duos (E4500, E4600, E6300). Very limited overclock with stock cooling (I found about 10 to 15% like another user), but it does work. The overclocking is very dependent on the memory brand you use. Make sure you understand CPU-z. Oh, and I now have 4 of these boards since I had so many AGP cards I didn't want to upgrade.
