One of the neatest pieces of gear I've bought
Pros: Where has this been!?!?? It's a great idea and great implementation. Now I can charge batteries for my camera while in a vehicle or I can have some extra power for my iPhone when I'm far away from the nearest computer or wall outlet. Nice enough little black velvet-ish bag for the tips and retractable USB cable. I just wish it were a wee bit bigger so I can fit all the tips and the unit itself inside easily. It's a bit tight with all that inside and I could always pull out the tips I don't use but it's nice to have those handy in case someone else needs a recharge. Still, that's a very minor quibble.
Cons: None as of yet but I'm very early in writing this review. Hopefully nothing bad happens because I really like this product. Support for AAA batteries would be nice but it's not a detraction for me.
Overall Review: I usually wait for awhile to write reviews but this thing really got me from the point of unpacking. I installed four discharged NiMH batteries and plugged it into my USB hub. After a couple of hours there was quite a bit of charge to the batteries, enough that I could charge my iPod from nearly dead to full charge overnight. There was even some power left so I'm feeling that I can probably get two decent charges from this pack before it needs a recharge itself. That works great for me.
Better than I expected
Pros: I had been looking for a larger display for a while but the prices always seemed to make me balk. Bought this one when on sale for $200 shipped. Great deal indeed. Good color after calibration. Not the first hint of trouble yet. I love the touch controls. Makes input switching a breeze. I have my Mac Pro and Xbox 360 patched into this monitor and it's more than up to the task.
Cons: Nothing yet. Hopefully nothing until I decide to upgrade again
Overall Review: Going from a 4:3 17" Apple Studio Display, it's like doing design work on a football field. Comparing the two side-by-side this monitor is a pretty decent upgrade. It absolutely required calibration but I expect that with any monitor. A height adjustment capability would have been nice but not a necessity in my use. I pulled off the supplied support so I could use an aftermarket mount. Relatively light in weight.
Functional, lots of connection options but a wee bit pricey
Pros: Solid chunk of aluminum casing for the skin. A whole mess of connections on the back which can come in handy when/if I decide to tote a whole bunch of movies around with me while on the road. Keeps my music and movie drive in a durable enough package.
Cons: I just wish the price were a bit lower. Plunking down $40 for just a case I like plus the money for a drive to put inside makes other ready-to-go external drives a bit more attractive. No real savings but I do like how the case looks and is constructed. Price knocks half an egg off the rating but I didn't see an option for 4.5 eggs.
Overall Review: I noticed the loose fit others have commented on. I have the two screws tightened fully but I can hear the sled the drive bolts to kind of rattling around on the rails. Not really a distraction unless you are placing your drive on a washing machine that is loaded out of balance. I think that's the only way I would be able to hear the rattle. As it sits on top of my G5 it's a pretty silent piece of kit. I'll buy more but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on a lower price.
Seems to be good enough
Pros: Not a coaster at all in the 30 I've burned so far. Solid performer in LiteOn drives.
Cons: No coasters. What am I supposed to put my beer on?
Overall Review: I've been mostly a Fuji media user for the past few years and it seems like every time I stray from that I'm the one getting burnt. But Verbatim has remained in the media game for a long time (still have some old 5.25" floppies with the brand on 'em at home) so they must be doing something right. At least it's not Memowrecks.
Working well
Pros: Quick burns to CD-R. LightScribe does work on a Mac with some effort.
Cons: Zip. Zilch. Nada.
Overall Review: DiscLabel for Mac seems to be the easiest to use when it comes to LightScribe function. That is, it's the only app I tried that actually recognized this drive attached via USB to an external enclosure. Maybe things would have been different for the other software I tried if the drive were mounted internally but geez, that really shouldn't matter. The drive itself is great. Not a coaster yet with the Verbatim media. Gotta love those combo deals from the Egg. Probably will buy another to go in the internal bay.
Works as it should
Pros: Handy amount of international adapters, compact enough design on the car adapter to fit my needs. Nice to have another home charger for my iPod.
Cons: None that I encountered in using it yet.
Overall Review: The only thing I wish this item featured is that it had two ports on the car charger instead of the single port. Not a huge hindrance or anything to fault it for but it would have been cool to be able to charge my phone and my external battery pack at the same time. Good piece of gear though.
