Works fine -- But there are different Versions of Firmware
Pros: I have had no problems with this switch. I bought it because I have had very good luck with my 10/100 switch in an office environment. It does run hot, but I have had only one go bad in 8 years.
Cons: Unfortunately, I bought the switch because Netgear's info said it supported jumbo frames in an unmanaged environment. Only after deep diving on the website did I find out that support for Jumbo Frames is only for certain S/N. You guessed it, the unit shipped by Newegg does not support jumbo frames. Do you know anyone who needs an unmanaged gigabit switch?
Great Software, Terrible Company
Pros: Works great, seamlessly integrates with Quickbooks Pro. If you need an upgrade for your QB software, the bundle is definitely the way to go - so look for that instead. With the enhanced version forms and e-filing are available and that has always worked without a hitch. This version is still CD based and is still good for a year and that is better than the subscription alternative. Even though it works, if I could give this a 0 eggs, negative eggs or broken eggs, I would!
Cons: The pricing and what you get are just BONKERS!!!! The company's attitude towards existing customers is deplorable. It costs more to renew than to start the service new. Intuit is trying to move everyone to a monthly subscription with a yearly pay in and a per month/ per employee fee. They also want you to buy more services and you constantly get messages and come-ons for that. You have to give Intuit your Credit Card Number. You can opt out, but that is another phone call. Intuit consistently removes functions and makes you pay to get them back. It is just plain annoying. This version is limited to 3 employees. Anyone with even one more employee will pay an additional amount of money to process the entire payroll. The list price for unlimited employees is north of $400.00. It is either extra small or one size fits all. INTUIT, THAT IS RIDICULOUS! The costs are hidden on the website. You never can tell how much it will cost to add the additional employees.
Overall Review: You can buy this and self renew. The cost will be less than a straight automatic renewal. This is how it is done. This option may not be available for long, but should work at least until May 2015. I hope NewEgg's Review Guidelines doesn't consider this an aftermarket procedure. 1. Uninstall your old subscription service by going to Employees - My Payroll Service - Manage Service Keys. Click on your companies and uninstall. You will get a warning about it being removed from your computer but you have to call Intuit to discontinue your service. That is okay. I do this after my subscription has expired. 2. Now install from the new CD. Under Employees, you should now have an install from box option. Use it. Yes you will have to have a CC and give all the information. But you can call to deauthorize the auto-renewal after this is all set up. 3. You will now have an activated 3 employees or less payroll. If you want to add more employees your must call customer service. Don't Panic. 4. Ask to add employees, you will told that will cost more than 400.00 USD However when you get to the end of the conversation, you will be told that the 400.00 will appear on your credit card for 24 hours and then it will go away and approximately 100.00 plus tax will be charged to your card. This is what happens but it may take a few days for all the charges and reversals to clear. Good Luck and if you find a good alternative to Intuit Payroll - SPREAD THE WORD. Small businesses everywhere will thank you.
Dropped right in, Worked great
Pros: What's to say. It works great. It is being overworked in a NAS at the moment and I have had no problems.
Cons: Non that I know of.
Overall Review: Great for repairing or even upgrading as you repurpose older units. Working great so far. Only time will tell, but no complaints so far.
2 year follow-up, I would still recommend
Pros: Pro Safe (business product) 24/7 tech support and lifetime guarantee for switch. Tech support very responsive.
Cons: Only 2 year guarantee for the the power adapter.
Overall Review: The power adapter started showing signs of malfunction 10 days out of warranty. I called tech support was very responsive and finally approved a free replacement. I notice others have had problems with the power supply as well so it could be the Achilles heel. Given the responsive tech support I would still recommend the product. Check your power supply often for humming, excessive heat and power drains from ups.
Working great
Pros: I bought two of these to complete a NAS. It took a while for the first drive to sync, but the second one took about half the time and they are both running cool and fine.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: This product is OEM and comes with absolutely nothing, just the drive. The description should make this very clear. The packaging, from Newegg was sub par. Bubblewrap and then in an ill fitting box for each drive. The two boxes were then placed in a shipping box that was way too large. The interior padding was wadded paper on only one side. The two boxes rattled around the larger box and there was nothing between the first box and second or on five of the six sides of the shipping box. One edge of one drive had completely poked through the bubble wrap. I hope there hasn't been some damage that I am not aware of or that may shorten the life of the drives.
It works, know your settings
Pros: Works, but you have to make sure you have the access point settings for which your telephone is provisioned. Make sure your download the appropriate driver from the Options website. It will ask for your s/n or IMEI and point you the right download. Enter your Access point (APN) and other information that you need to access the internet from your phone. I have used this with my old medianet plan and it does use 3G where available. For iphone users, check out the firmware that allows tethering. You should be able to get the APN, username and passwords from that and enter it in. (YMMV)
Cons: When switching from wireless use to mobile use, the set up sometimes needs to be repaired (vista on a latitude tablet).
Overall Review: Don't, I repeat DON'T, download the ATT communication manager, it will not allow you to change the preset APN.
