The best NAS I have ever had.
Pros: The ease of use, compatibility and tones of features. This device is worth every penny! I have never owned a NAS device with such simplicity and amazing performance. Works great as a media server, iTunes server, BitTorrent download server... I can even be at my friends house and log into this thing via the Internet!
Cons: It can't read my mind... (I should of got a bigger Hard Drive)
Overall Review: I am using this on a mixed home network with MAC's and PC's, the device is very very fast and has absolutely no compatibility issues and just simply works. Just like MAC's! I plugged it in and clicked a button and haven't had a problem since.
Awesome drive, when it works...
Pros: This drive looks awesome and is made of solid metal. I have been pretty rough with it and it is still kicking with a vengeance. It is pretty fast, especially for its size and if you put it in NTFS format. The drive will also help you get girls! Yes, girls! When you get the drive out they say, “What is that!?” Then I say, “Let me show you…” A great conversation starter. :)
Cons: If you are transferring for a long time, or large files, the drive gets SuperHOT! It will actually burn your fingers when you go to pull it out. As others have stated the drive is a little difficult to put in and pull out-of the USB ports. Luckily its made of metal and can take a, “…serious man handling…” as one person said. The drive will corrupt the data from time to time, I haven’t figured out why, but it does it on HFS+, FAT32 and NTFS file systems. You can still read the data, you just can’t write to the drive until you Format. Oh, and NEVER LEAVE YOUR DRIVE IN WHILE BOOTING YOUR COMPUTER. Every time I have done this the drive will quit working until I reformat.
Overall Review: If you are into aesthetics, such as myself and want to use the drive as strictly a file transfer device for… getting the latest “Borrowed” media from your friends, then I would suggest this drive. It should also get you some dates too when the girls ask you what the heck it is. If you are going to use the drive for anything else I would NOT suggest getting this drive until SuperTalent fixes its issues.
Awesome Enclosure
Pros: The sleek design is great looking on the desktop. The aluminum build helps dispel the heat really well. The USB connection runs good and fast. One of the best enclosures I have ever owned.
Cons: The lights on the front could blind anyone if you look at them too long, (easy fix with some whiteout). The built in fan is really loud. I went out and got a SileX and now I can't hear it at all. Regular price is a little high, I got mine on sale though. For these reasons I give it 4 eggs.
Overall Review: The built in cooling fan is great to have for those High Performance HDD's that tend to fry themselves over time due to heat. I am currently using this case to hold a 1TB Samsung drive for my Apple TV mod. The eSATA works great with the Apple TV and the USB is hella fast for those times when my friends want to share their "borrowed" movies with me. If you use the same Apple TV mod as me MAKE SURE YOU POWER DOWN THE APPLE TV BEFORE YOU UNPLUG THE eSATA, putting it into Suspend mode isn't good enough. I would definitely buy another one of these if they go on sale again.
