Great Set-top or budget PC

EVEREX Desktop PC gPC mini ET2400 Intel Core Duo T2450 2GB DDR2 160GB HDD Intel GMA 950 Windows Vista Home Premium

Pros: 1. Great price 2. Bluetooth 3. Good wi-fi speeds 4. VERY Compact 5. Appears to have S/PDIF through the 1/8th inch phone jack 6. Pretty much no shovel-ware 7. Low power consumption 8. Quiet

Cons: Everex is a somewhat 'mysterious' manufacturer; however, it seems that there is some reverence for some of their other products. I usually don't use manufacturer-provided tech support, so I'm not planning on anything great should I have problems. Really nothing bad to say so far...

Overall Review: At Newegg's price it's nearly unbeatable for a compact/budget/set-top PC. Lacks a HDMI port but you could get this with a DVI-HDMI adapter. The performance has been very good so far; Vista loads quickly and performance is snappy. Unit looks nice and feels solid. Ordered the PlayStation 3 Logitech Cordless Mediaboard Pro and an S-Video to Composite cable to hook it to an analogue TV.

Good stuff!

ONKYO TX-NR807 7.2-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver

Pros: Inputs for everything, true upscaling of lesser formats, solid build and features.

Cons: No HDTV tuner (nor does any other brand or model that I know of...) but I can dream can't I?

Overall Review: We've had this unit for nearly two weeks now and have been using it every day. It is coupled with a set of Polk RM6750 speakers and I added two 6751 to bring it up to 7.1 Got a great deal on both the receiver and speakers from Newegg as open-box items. I was nervous about open-box merchandise, but it arrive in great shape and everything was still in in factory-sealed packaging. The TX-NR807 has well-designed look, feel, and features including an all-metal chassis - the only exterior plastic I could find are the buttons, OSD, network connectivity, and many other bells and whistles. It has more than enough inputs and outputs to suit most uses including the now-elusive phono input. Hooked it to a wireless bridge yesterday and vTuner went and found 30 'local' radio stations - no static at all! Sound is good to great depending on the source. Currently have XBox, Wii, Turntable, Dual cassette deck and EQ, PC, Tivo/DVD player hooked to it thru 32' LCD TV and it handles them all!
