Not a bad enclosure

COOLMAX HD-381BK-U2 Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA USB 2.0 OTB Function External Enclosure
COOLMAX HD-381BK-U2 Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA USB 2.0 OTB Function External Enclosure

Pros: I'm running 4 of these that I got cheaper someplace else but this isn't too bad a price. All 4 have 500 GB Barracuda ES HDDs and I haven't had any problem at all. They do look stylish and have the OneTouchButton but I haven't tried that out.

Cons: No real instructions. Hardest part was getting the front cover off but not really a Con, I guess. After I got it off, the hdd just slides in and makes the connection. No cooling fan so enclosure does get hot, I guess that's to be expected, so I have a fan blowing across them.

Overall Review: It could use more vent slots for cooling.

Most Critical Review

Nice switch - terrible support

NETGEAR 24-Port Fully Managed Switch M4100-26G, 4xSFP, Fiber Uplinks, Routing, ProSAFE Lifetime Protection (GSM7224)
NETGEAR 24-Port Fully Managed Switch M4100-26G, 4xSFP, Fiber Uplinks, Routing, ProSAFE Lifetime Protection (GSM7224)

Pros: Documentation is on a CD but is very extensive. It'll keep you busy for a few days reading it all. Also, includesd a quickstart setup sheet that had me up and running pretty quick. I would advise assigning these a static ip which is pretty easy to do with hyperterminal. The web interface is easy to use and pretty extensive. Port locations alternate up and down instead of 1-12 on one row and 13-24 on next which worked out better for me. Once I got into the web interface, I was impressed at the reports I could pull and all the other functions available. You definitely get your money's worth.

Cons: Tech support. After I installed and hooked up the switches (3 stacked) I started getting complaints that the network was running slow. I noticed that one switch was generating collisions so I put the old switches on line and everything was fine. I called tech support and talked to David who told me I had to download the latest firmware but I found out later that the switches had the latest firmware installed. That was his only offer of a solution, like he just wanted to get rid of me. That's when I went in and assigned static ip addresses, restarted each of the switches and voila - the switches worked like they were supposed to. Too bad the tech wasn't smart enough or interested to help out enough to offer other suggestions so I didn't have to waste my time troubleshooting. I used to be a phone tech and really tried for a first time resolution on each call and was really tempted to return these 3 and cancel the 4th one I just bought from NewEgg.

Overall Review: Newegg is great and I'll continue considering them for business purchases. Also, if you do get one of these switches, don't forget the gigabit NIC's. I say that because I forgot about a couple machines that had the 10/100 cards and there was a noticable difference when I replaced the cards
