What a great little camera

OLYMPUS SZ-30MR Silver 16 MP 24X Optical Zoom 25mm Wide Angle Digital Camera HDTV Output
OLYMPUS SZ-30MR Silver 16 MP 24X Optical Zoom 25mm Wide Angle Digital Camera HDTV Output

Pros: - Takes great pictures for the amateur that wants a balance of control and convenience. - One of the most intuitive and and efficient button and OSD layouts I have ever used. The manual was only required to read up on some of the features and to ID a couple icons I couldn't easily deduce. - Using it's different shutter modes, you can take some amazing action sequences. It's like a photographic machine gun. PEW PEW PEW! - The zoom is fierce. Nuff said. - Huge display screen. - Loaded with great little features that make the camera fun and more useful.

Cons: - The zoom lever is a little difficult to master without futzing with it. This is the one control I have any issue with at all. - The only thing that could really make this camera better, IMO, would be wifi transfer support. But at the current price, I would expect to pay more if it were there.

Overall Review: Overall this is probably my favorite camera I have ever purchased. I bought it on a whim from the Shellshocker deal for $200 with a 16GB micro SD. I had intended it to be just a kick around so I didn't have to pack a DSLR everywhere just to take pics. Surprisingly, other than specialized shots, this is now going to replace my Canon Rebel XT.

Amazing potential, poor delivery

WD TV Live Hub 1TB Media Center - WDBABZ0010BBK-NESN
WD TV Live Hub 1TB Media Center - WDBABZ0010BBK-NESN

Pros: - Compact - Quiet - Good playback quality - Decent fast forward, rewind, tracking - Feature rich - Nice looking interface

Cons: - 1000Mb ethernet runs at about 100Mb half duplex, in reality, and significantly degrades performance during network transfers - Non-multimedia feature addition prioritized over fixing existing multimedia feature bugs - Poor firmware consistency across devices (Different Live Hub, different firmware behavior - Poor performance, underpowered - Using Media Library feature cripples device for some users - Poor online firmware update support (WD recommends manually updating firmware with a USB drive) - Generally unreliable - Issues with networking and local media library make onboard storage a bit of a waste. Mine goes unused these days.

Overall Review: If WD would modularize all the Facebook/Flickr/Picasa/Games/etc, to make them optional, upgrade the processor, add a true Gb ethernet connection, and prioritize core functionality in firmware development, they would have an excellent product. As it stands it tries to do too much and does nothing particularly well. If you can figure out what firmware version makes the most features usable for your use patterns, it is a pretty good media player, but still expect lockups and general sketchiness. Identifying 'your firmware' can be problematic, seeing as no two devices seem to react quite the same to each firmware release. Myself and 3 friends all have them, they all have similar issues, but never entirely the same. The issues are generally minor, but stack up quickly to ruin the experience of "upgrading". Currently I run mine off a NAS, due to onboard media library/NIC issues. And I would recommend the model without a drive. Stream from your PC and save yourself some money/frustratio

Slow and a nightmare to recover

Samsung 300E5C 15.6" LED Notebook - Intel Core i5 i5-3210M 2.50 GHz
Samsung 300E5C 15.6" LED Notebook - Intel Core i5 i5-3210M 2.50 GHz

Pros: - Is a laptop

Cons: - Slow for an i3 - Loaded with crapware/bloatware - Horrible web support - No drivers included on support disc - Recovery disk is hacked together korean language version of Windows 7 - Recovery partition of system drive caused more harm than good

Overall Review: I have had this laptop for months now and, aside from it being generally slow with maxed out RAM, it has been ok. Last night it started blue screening in a bad way. So I tried doing a windows repair with the included disc. Didn't work so I tried using the recovery partition. The recovery partition turned a relatively small problem into a level of broken Windows install I had previously never seen in 16 years as a Systems Engineer. All dialog and button text was gone. The OS would boot to desktop but that was about it. It also threw several errors in Korean, which I don't read. After managing to get Windows re-installed with the included Korean windows install disk I set about looking for network drivers, which are NOT included anywhere accessible during a system outage. So I ended up having to buy a USB wireless adapter to deal with the issue. I couldn't even find details on the Samsung support site with information as to what the actual network adapters were. All information was generic, with the wired adapter not even being identified with a manufacturer name. What a complete waste of time due to a lazily assembled product. This is my first and last Samsung PC product.

Buyer beware

Logitech Infrared Universal Harmony 200 Remote Control - 3rd Party
Logitech Infrared Universal Harmony 200 Remote Control - 3rd Party

Pros: Looked good, clean, complete.

Cons: Didn't work out of the box. Took forever to get here. It went through 3 different post carriers to get from California to Oregon.

Overall Review: With fresh batteries the device selection buttons just flash in unison every few seconds over and over like it is stuck in some weird mode. I was able to connect it to myharmony.com and set it up, but now that is finished the remote is just a flashy light toy with no other use. Did some research and found that flashing device lights usually mean it is in safe mode and that you can take it out of safe mode by removing the batteries and holding down the 2 button while replacing the batteries. This did not solve the problem. Going to be calling NewEgg on this one as return shipping will cost more than just ordering a replacement.

Microsoft XBOX 360 250GB Holiday bundle w/Halo Reach & Fable 3 250 GB Hard Drive Black

Pros: Smaller Quieter Faster Cooler Sleeker Black

Cons: No gigabit No onboard wireless

Overall Review: I have owned every major revision of the Xbox console and this one doesn't disappoint. My original 360 died after a very long life (bought it the first week of release. RMA'd it once for RROD, then a few years later it finally died. Hands down one of the most solid pieces of tech I have owned. And this new unit seems to be even better. Moving my data from my old 20GB Xbox drive to the new, expansive, 250GB drive was a breeze, even though my old Xbox was toast! Just plugged the drive into a buddies Xbox and copied everything to a thumb drive. And now that MS did away with the horrible coverflow/Wii ripoff on the UI, the overall Xbox experience is great. This was all made even more solid after spending a week at my buddies house and watching him fight with his PS3, navigating the overly complex menu system, and watching how everything seemed to take several times longer on his PS3 than on my Xbox. PS3 owners seem to spend a lot more time watching progress bars...

Rosewill RX234 2.5"/3.5" SATA III USB 3.0 LED Single Bay HDD Docking Supports UASP and Hard Drive Capacity Up to 10TB

Pros: Small, cheap.

Cons: Not the best quality, but relative to the price it is on par.

Overall Review: Didn't pay attention to the interface type. So now I have an IDE enclosure I don't need. But that is my own fault. LOL
