Great Budget Router

NETGEAR WNR3500-100NAR RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft
NETGEAR WNR3500-100NAR RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft

Pros: Cheap, easily had for $30-$40 in refurbished condition. Both N wireless and gigabit ports, to make the most of N in optimal conditions you really need your sources to be gigabit.

Cons: Only version 1 of the WNR3500 line and this not compatible with open source firmwares. Connectivity of wired switch throughput can degrade overtime necessitating a restart.

Overall Review: Has a row of lights on the very top that flash in different patterns depending on the wireless connectivity status. Dedicated button thankfully to turn them off, strange feature. Tempted to get another to test wireless repeating functionality. My unit works great and was a steal for the price.

Most Critical Review

Failed after a month

AMC CC5E-B25B 25 ft. Cat 5E Blue Network Cable
AMC CC5E-B25B 25 ft. Cat 5E Blue Network Cable

Pros: Very cheap if orderd with other items (shipping)

Cons: Cheap construction hard to remove from jacks and just stopped working for no apparent reason after about 90 days of use. Dissapointing I still have others that work fine.

Dead Mic

Logitech Recertified 981-000349 H150 3.5 mm Connector Supra-aural Stereo Headset - White

Pros: Good enough product for the price, if it worked.

Cons: Mic did not work on arrival, regardless of the position the selector switch on the cord was in.

Overall Review: Refurbisher is not adequately inspecting products.

Updated Review

RAIDMAX Altas ATX-295WBP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply
RAIDMAX Altas ATX-295WBP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

Pros: Pros: Case is spacious and surprisingly solid for the price. Got the wrong power supply with my case. Keeps everything cool.

Cons: Not the sturdiest case design, skid free pads are already coming off the feet. All of the fans plug directly into the PSU (no speed control). Power supply lacked a PCI-E 6 pin power adapter and only had 3 SATA connectors. Sure can't run a video card off the low amp molex/accessory line. UPDATE: Newegg offered a refund or replacement and Raidmax offered to just ship me the correct PSU, the next day (option I took). Not an ideal situation to be stuck in but glad that everyone involved was interested in solving the situation with as little fuss as possible.

Overall Review: The side mesh is interesting feature, not sure how it will affect ventilation.

No PCI-E Power

Pros: Case is spacious and surprisingly solid for the price.

Cons: Power supply lacked a PCI-E 6 pin power adapter and only had 3 SATA connectors. Sure can't run a video card off the low amp molex/accessory line. Hopefully the issue can be corrected quickly.

Makes good barebones file server

Foxconn RS233 ITX-Barebone Intel 945GC Barebone
Foxconn RS233 ITX-Barebone Intel 945GC Barebone

Pros: Only cost me around $90 shipped and has been working great with a Samsung F1 750 GB SATA drive, and 1 GB of RAM. Really is a small footprint!

Cons: The case itself and the power supply have fans and they do generate a noticable amount of noise in a quite room but not overly loud.

Overall Review: For the cost and size a great little file server for use on a college network.
