Most Favorable Review

Price & quality outweight little annoyances

TRENDnet TK-802R 8-Port PS/2 Rack Mount KVM Switch w/ OSD
TRENDnet TK-802R 8-Port PS/2 Rack Mount KVM Switch w/ OSD

Pros: quality product; works with Windows & Linux systems equally; price!

Cons: didn't support my Dell usb kb; tried everything, no luck. Can't disable switching beep. console display doesn't sync with my 17" ViewEra & 82865G onboard vid; but works fine w/ all other monitor/GX card configs thus tested.

Overall Review: Console display not syncing is really annoying, thankfully it's just with that one config. The beep is annoying too, but as the KVM is in another office, I don't have to here it. Documentation is minimal(and contraditory). I'd strongly consider buying again considering the quality and price.

Most Critical Review

Unsigned Drivers and Win 7

SYBA 1-Serial Port PCI 32-Bit Card Model SY-PCI15003
SYBA 1-Serial Port PCI 32-Bit Card Model SY-PCI15003

Pros: If it works for you, I'm sure it's great. It didn't for me.

Cons: Read a review that it worked great with Win 7, but I didn't find that to be the case. It failed to install with the driver installer being very vague about why ("Installation is aborted. Click exit to close"). Contacted tech support and within two days they sent me more drivers that didn't work and then told me to try again and maybe my card is defective. After independent research, I found that it works if I disable the Driver Signature Requirement at boot-up because the card's drivers aren't certified. More to do with Win 7 than the card, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work; drivers should be certified.

Overall Review: Really wish new computers came with serial ports still. That would be nice.

Just To Be Clear

StarTech.com SV431USBAE 4 Port StarView USB KVM Switch With Audio
StarTech.com SV431USBAE 4 Port StarView USB KVM Switch With Audio

Pros: Looks dandy.

Cons: I just wanted to point out that on the manufacturer's website it lists "What's In The Box" and does NOT list cables. Not a big deal except according to the pictures it shows you will need four male-to-female VGA cables. Hard to find (I'm IT and my tech closet filled with cables has none) and somewhat expensive to buy. I've decided not to buy this because of that and I wanted others to realize even if you have a bunch of VGAs lying around, this still may not work for you out of the box. You may end up paying double before you're switching between computers.

second chance

Comments: follow-up to my bad review: Finally got Trendnet on the phone, though it wasn't through the phone# on the product's information. They told me to have Newegg replace it. This confused me because Newegg wouldn't grant an RMA via the website, so I simply called Newegg. The Newegg rep. answered the phone quickly, she made the RMA scheduling painless. Bad product was returned and new should be here soon. Kudos to Newegg; Trendnet still has some issues with their 800#(s). ps. the html email RMA didn't display right in my Evolution email client or Mozilla web browser; so I had to print from a Windose computer; blah.

bad experience

Comments: intial setup seemed to be going well, but LEDs on top never illuminated to indicate any status (bad or good). Never found the HP 830 via the parallel port; could print (but did configure) Dell 720. Tried to call Trendware, but got a generic voicemail box? In total, wasted 2.5 hours and $60 dollars of the company's time. Small change for a company but Trendware's product and support are making for a poor reflection on my decision to purchase this product.

Terrible

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Ordered 04/10; it is now 05/06. Still haven't received anything (it was supposed to be 5-7 day shipping). Called tech support numerous time and there's always a new excuse. Now the phone line puts me on hold for 10 minutes which "transfers me to voice mail" which hangs up on me before I can leave a message. BUYER BEWARE.
