Blu-Ray HTPC

Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Flawless Blu-Ray play black. Hardware decoder. HDMI Comes with "Fox live update" program for updating bios, chipset, and video drivers with just a few mouse clicks. Comes with "Fox One" program to overclock the FSB, and change voltage from the desktop on the fly. Overclock IGP using "Amd Overdrive", program not included.

Cons: CMOS jumper was set to "clear", and would not post. Finally figured it out, as the CMOS pins are NOT marked to which one is the #1 pin.

Overall Review: Suggested for HTPC AMD X2 4050e 2.1ghz cpu 30-40% cpu usage w/ power dvd BD 800mhz ram 2x1gb Only 37*C during play back

Update to 5 stars

Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single
Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single

Pros: Update: Speakers are now paired to a 30wpc, 4ohm, valve tube amp. Don't need the sub any more for movies or music.

Cons: You need a good amp. Quality over power.

Overall Review: Old SS amp was holding these back. 30wpc is more than enough. 15wpc would still be more than enough for these speakers.

Sound fantastic! Great Value!

Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single
Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single

Pros: Quality 3-way speaker system. Horns sounds rich. Cymbals are detailed. Drums are firm. Strings are alive. Vocals are warm. Mid-bass and sub-bass are musical and prominent. Fills my 25ft x 14ft room and then some.

Cons: Bass lacks oomph. Using a 12" Polk sub for fill.

Overall Review: The Polk 70s do not disappoint. Fills my 25ft x 17ft room and then some. For movies, plan to add a sub if you want to feel the bass.

Pros: Plays Blu-Ray flawlessly. Combine AMD 4050e cpu and AMD 780G/sb700 for hardware decoding. 30-40% cpu usage w/ PowerDvd BD low cost, comes with heat sink and fan

Cons: Does not have 2x1mb cache! It only has 2x512kb or 1x1mb cache... Does not have a total of 2mb cache.

Overall Review: Suggested for HTPC

Comments: Cost was the #1 factor. Replaces my k7s5a. Bought my k7s8-e on july 28 2003 for 59$. Have a XP 1700+ B core @ 166x11 1.6v bought from newegg july 17 2003 for 44$. Using 512mb and 256mb PC2700 cas 2.5. BIOS allows FSB control 1mhz increments by bios. OR set FSB by jumpers 100,133,166,200. RAM settings are 100,133,166,200 or auto. Also settings for RAM cas 2,2.5,3 or auto. PCI/AGP is locked @ 33/66 great for overclocking! Manual is weak and BIOS lack some features.
