Runs Win 7 Aero and nearly automatic installation

PowerColor Radeon HD 2400PRO 256MB DDR2 PCI Video Card 24PRO256M PCI
PowerColor Radeon HD 2400PRO 256MB DDR2 PCI Video Card 24PRO256M PCI

Pros: Great PowerColor tech support. Helped resuscitate a nearly dead DELL 3000. One of few 512mb Directx10 PCI cards that will run on a 250w power supply. Enabled 3.5 Windows 7 Areo rating and 5.2 3D Business / Game rating on Windows Experience Index. Installation under Win 7 and DELL onboard protocols was literally automatic -- drop and go! Fanless, so quiet.

Cons: It's obvious in the product images and others repeat this characteristic -- fanless cards like this use a thick heatsink. The card took up two PCI slots on my DELL 3000.

Overall Review: I got fantastic email tech support from PowerColor as I prepared to purchase this card. The rep sent an install sequence to address the onboard graphics issue that many who buy this card face. Very personable, and that service confirmed my choice. Although, if you have less than 300w power supply and need a PCI card that can get your machine running Win 7 Aero graphics, there are very few choices. I did check the DELL 3000 BIOS setting for the onboard graphics and found that DELL's protocol offered two options: Onboard and Automatic (the factory setting). So, with my 3000, there was nothing to do in BIOS. I removed a useless modem card to make room for the "fat" HD2400, dropped the new card in, and rebooted the machine (don't forget to connect the monitor to the new DVI port!). Win 7 automatically installed the newest drivers (8/17/09), and the DELL updated the Display Adapter in Device Manager to ATI (onboard didn't even appear anymore). The whole process was automatic!! WOW!
