Nice Burner

LACIE IEEE 1394 / USB 2.0 d2 Blu-ray Burner 12X Model 301906U

Pros: I own a 2009 Macbook Pro, and used a kit to replace my internal optical drive with a solid state boot disk. This fulfilled every need that the average user will use their internal drive for- it burns and reads DVD. I can't speak for its LightScribe abilities, as I haven't used them.

Cons: Only one con, but this ended up being a big one for me- my MacBook, which will boot off of any external FireWire drive (I've tested it with several), will not boot from this drive with a bootable CD or DVD. I bought it to install a Linux distro via a live CD (I didn't want to do a complicated USB workaround), but it didn't work.

Overall Review: Honestly, this is the perfect DVD reader/writer for the vast majority of users. However, be wary if you plan on using it as a Mac boot drive.

Great little enclosure

Pros: Pretty standard enclosure, it accepts a 2.5 inch standard hard drive. I bought two to reuse a few hard drives from a laptop that had its motherboard fried. It's powered by the USB bus, and comes with a cord that has two USB A sides, in case one USB port isn't enough to power it.

Cons: This sounds silly, but the screws are hard to screw in and out. Expect mild frustration.

Overall Review: I haven't exactly put them through rigorous testing, but they seem okay. Hard to beat 10 bucks.
