Super SSD

Corsair Force Series 3 2.5" 180GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F180GB3-BK
Corsair Force Series 3 2.5" 180GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F180GB3-BK

Pros: Drive is fast and I have had zero issues. Windows installed in no time, and have not had a BSOD. Came with the newest firmware and a bracket to convert to 3.5". Windows Experience Index gives this SSD a rating of 7.6. Using ATTO, I got 551MB/sec read and 495MB/sec write

Cons: None, really.

Overall Review: I initially attempted to change from IDE to ACHI on my original HD and then clone the new drive. At first all appeared well, but some programs failed to start, and Windows gave some strange results. From my experience, I recommend: Change BIOS to AHCI. Clean install Windows. Enable TRIM support. Load applications and data.

Didn't Work!

Rosewill RX35-AT-IU SLV Aluminum 3.5" Silver IDE USB 2.0 External Enclosure
Rosewill RX35-AT-IU SLV Aluminum 3.5" Silver IDE USB 2.0 External Enclosure

Pros: Looks good. Light works.

Cons: Wouldn't recognize any of my IDE drives. Swapped USB cables, USB ports, etc. No luck. I've been using Rosewill enclosures for years. First bad one.

Excellent for Refurbished Product

Logitech Recertified 920-003070 K400 Wireless Touch Keyboard with Built-In Touchpad for Internet Connected TV's

Pros: I ordered keyboard on Sunday and it arrived on Tuesday. Micro USB dongle right where it should, in the slot under the battery cover. Great size and easy to key and mouse pad works great. Immediately connected to all my PCs without driver downloads. Looks like new.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: I'm currently using it with a Raspberry Pi as a micro HTPC and I couldn't be happier. Range with the USB extender is more than adequate.

Tough but Successful

GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I purchased this mother board a quick (and cheap) replacement when my previous motherboard stopped working. This board looked to be exactly what I needed. It accepts the AMD X6 processors. The South Bridge supports up to 12 USB 2.0/1.1 ports and a Renesas chip that supports 2 USB 3.0/2.0 ports on the back panel. Unlike many posts, this one didn’t appear to suffer the loose North Bridge or South Bridge problem. In summation, everything I’ll need for several years at a very affordable price.

Cons: Doesn’t support DDR3-1600 without OCing. As you’ll see in my “Other Thoughts”, this board appears to be extremely sensitive to the type of RAM installed. The Utility DVD is only good to get the USB, SATA, Ethernet adapter and HD audio hardware working. It’s funny that some of the utility software, i.e., @BIOS is already out of date and instructs you to get the latest update when you attempt to use it. The board is not made to fit the standard case in that there is no support for the board on the edge where the ATX power connection sits. System information shows RAM modules in Slots 0 and 1, while they are actually installed in 0 and 2? The BIOS reflects Dual Channel, non-ganged. Go figure

Overall Review: I did a clean install of the OS and was continually frustrated by the BSODs going through the many (150+) Windows updates and restarts. Windows solutions suggested everything from a bad antivirus program to bad breath (bad video card, bad drivers, bad memory, etc.) . Memory test first tested bad then good. I was 5 minutes away from calling for an RMA when I remembered how finicky Gigabyte boards are about memory. I initially installed DDR3-1333 RAM, but after I switched to DDR3-1600 (running as 1333) RAM everything settled in smoothly and the OS and apps installed without a hiccup.
