ASUS 5.1 sound card
Pros: I've been using this sound card for the last year and a half with no complaints. I have rather expensive power-hungry headphones (Sennheiser HD-650s) and the onboard amp on this card does a pretty decent job of powering them. I know the internet wants me to spend another $1000 on a separate headphone amp, a DAC, and a million other components to get 'audiophile grade' sound, but I consider myself a picky listener and vinyl aficionado, and the sound I get out of this card is more than good enough for me.
Cons: None
Entry level mechanical keyboard
Pros: Buttons are easy to clean / degrease, noise is not as loud as other mechanicals I've used in the past.
Cons: See 'Other' section. Totally fine until I started losing 100% response on some keys.
Overall Review: Update after 2.5 yrs ownership... seems like one key after the next just keeps dying. Started around 1.5 yrs of ownership. First it was the '0' on the numpad, then the 'Y', and now the 'P' and the 'L'. Keys don't go out altogether, just need to pay special attention with these letters and push harder. Purchasing a new keyboard in the near future and I'll probably try a different manufacturer.... was hoping to get a much longer life out of this periph.
Patriot flash drive
Pros: Works great, but I lost the cap after a couple years. I wish Patriot would come out with one of these fun bouncy rubbery guys with a concealable/slide-able USB connector!
Cons: Lost my cap!
Flat 75ft ethernet cable
Pros: Bought this cable over two years ago because I wanted a hard line from the router, in my living room, to my bedroom, which was 50ft away down a hallway. This cable nicely tucks between my carpet and the moulding for an essentially invisible connection. I'd recommend this approach to anyone who wants to run a longer length of network cable; it looks clean, it's good for keeping away from pets/children/vacuums, and it beats wireless for gaming applications.
Cons: None
Rosewill HDMI cable
Pros: Been using this cable for close to 2 years, no complaints, works as advertised.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Stop overpaying for cables!!! You're better than that!
Seagate external drive
Pros: I bought this to replace my old external backup drive that finally died after several years (also a Seagate). Works as advertised and the software is decent.
Cons: Software could be better; I wish there was an option to consolidate multiple versions of the same file and maybe adjust the file structure to be more easily browsable. It just makes a new folder at every backup and eventually I have to wipe the drive and start from scratch.
