can i use the touch feature with windows 7?

I  only use this monitor on win 8.1 but the software and documentation disk which came with the monitor does say it is plug and play comparable with both windows 7 and windows 8 and the drivers for all versions of win 7 are included. Under the features section it did say edge swipe only works with win 8. The touch works though USB with the supplied cable. The video input is DVI or HDMI. There is a external power supply. When connected to a PC you will have 3 connections. This monitor has excellent video and the touch function works as specified by HP. I have been very satisfied and would purchase it again. Does the built in stand work when the monitor is in Portrait?

No The stand is fixed and is mounted in a recessed area. Newegg does however sell a monitor mount made by VIVO which I use that will allow you to rotate the monitor. Its easy to install by removing the existing stand which is attached with 2 screws. Instructions to remove the stand is included on the disc that comes with the Monitor. Hope this helps.

If I want to Skype with this monitor, how do I hook up a camera?

You would need a separate webcam connected to your computer.  There is a Type D USB connection (the same type of USB connection found on most printers) but that is needed for the touch screen.  I use the the monitor as a second monitor on a Linux system and as main monitor when using Windows.

Does this item need a stylus? Can I use a stylus to be more precise with it?

Finger works great for anything it's size,  the smaller areas are more difficult, have not tried a stylus but sounds like a good idea. This is one of 4 computers on my house and I an an apple fan that wanted to try 8.1

I've used this monitor with Windows 8.1, pro.  It appears to work well.  I haven't used the speakers.  Primarily I have been using as a second monitor with my linux workstation coming off a kvm switch.

I've become handicapped so the mouse is a bit difficult to handle, so I would like to replace the HP2311x monitor with a touchsmart/screen monitor.

Is this easily accomplished by just switching one-for-one???  Or do I have to also replace the graphics card -- add drivers and software, etc.

What would be involved???

No a graphics card wouldn't be necessary if the ports your computer has are compatible to the touchscreen monitor. The TS Monitor will come with it's own software, which is the key to these devices, not necessarily vid card...

So, check your computer port (ie. HDMI, DVI, VGA,USB), then make sure the TS Monitor you choose has the port compatible and then order it.
