Can Beyond Earth function as a stand-alone PC game for a solo player?

Yes it has a single player mode just like previous CIV games where you play against up to 8 computer players depending on your map size.

Through the game setup you can me as hard or as easy as you want.

No system specifications listed?  I'd be interested to know not just the minimum specs, but the specs required to drive the game smoothly when it's generating a heavy computing load. I've an FX8350 running @4.1 GHZ mated with a GTX 760 + 8GB DDR3 @1600 MHz and CL timing 8-8-8-26.  Clearly that will run it ... but, how well?  Would prefer to use my 2560x1440 monitor, but also have a 1920x1200.  What resolutions does this support?  What resources to run at those resolutions?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Intel Core i5 3.2GHz quad-core CPU, 8GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz, 500GB HDD, NVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB x 2 (SLI), and DX 11.

This game runs excellently on my setup. My general rule for running a game flawlessly is to look at the recommended requirements and to go above them.

hi, well you can say that, but the thing everything is another planet, looks similar to civ 5 but its very diferent, i got 25 hours into the game and i think its fantastic, give it a try. i still think theywill release a civ 6 like the other old school ones.

i have seen some reviews by other players saying its a different game, the plot its the same you are trying to establish a human colony on another planet, i never played alpha century but i played civ 2,4,5 over 900 hours on civ 5, and i think beyond earth its amazing, give it a try.

This is a completely new game that is based in space with a new tech treet etc. It is a standalone game that will be a part of a new series with its own DLC etc, so it will not be "compatible" with Civ 5.
