Does the game need to be installed from the disk or is there a download option? My laptop does not have an optical drive.

It is activated on Steam so I would assume you can enter the code in the box to activate and then download it. I know that I installed it originally from the disc but since then it shows up as one of my games in my library on Steam that I can install via download.

Is it compatible with Windows 10?

Yes I have been using it on Win10 Pro
