Does the 17.3 model have g-sync?

There is no "Setup G-Sync" selection in Display Task of the NVIDIA control panel on my laptop.
The answer to your question is no G-Sync.

Question 2

Does this have hybrid (Intel) graphics or just the NVIDIA chip?  I have an older ROG laptop with the hybrid setup and it caused video tearing problems in the default configuration.  Hybrid is supposed to improve battery life, but I'd rather have problem free video.

Not a hybrid. Runs hot though, had to undervolt the cpu a tad to get temps in a reasonable range (went from 95-99c to 70-72c at max load).

is the ram 1*16gb or 2*8 gb?

The advertised version I read on Nov 27, 2017 said 16 GB in 1 stick.  I don't know how to verify this without opening the panel on the back.  The one-year warranty specifically says opening the panel voids the warranty.  After a year I'll probably upgrade another 16gb as the ram should be less expensive.

What is the difference between this and the 15.6 inch one? The price is the same and I can't see a difference at all specs wise.

The display is slightly different. 15.6" has a 120hz IPS display vs the 17.3" having 120hz 5ms panel.

at this price should it be 512G SSD and no mechanical old hard drive?   Also should it be 4K screen?   Doesn't it look like low cost variant?

Why would you want a 4K panel for a laptop made for FPS gaming. You need high refresh rates and the 4K panel wouldn’t give you that this is a perfect configuration as gaming laptops go at 1080p gaming!
