Question 1

Hello, i am interested in buying this laptop, my only concern would be about the ssd, wich has to little space for me. I have read that it is possible to install an aditional hdd. Openning the laptop for installing the hdd cancels my warranty? and what size is the slot? im interested in this item "WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX" . Is it compatible with this laptop? thanks

Yes, you can install another hard drive.  But it would have to be a laptop drive.  Laptop hard drives are 2.5".  The one you mentioned is a desktop hard drive and will not fit.  Just a standard 2.5" laptop SATA drive.  It will not void your warranty as long as you take proper precautions to ground yourself and do not damage the hardware.  There is a door on the bottom side of the laptop designed for easy install of an additional hard drive, and for expanding the ram. I would personally recommend a 2.5" solid state drive, as opposed to the kind you noted above.  You can get them on sale for a reasonable price these days. I recommend this for three reasons.  First, there is a significant difference in the speed.  Second, a hard drive with moving parts will significantly reduce your battery life.  And finally, having moving parts in a device designed to be moved around, one that could be potentially dropped, is not good.  SSD is the way to go with a laptop.

Also, keep in mind.  In addition to the hard drive slot in the unit, there is an empty bay where you could install an optical drive, OR, Acer sells a Hard drive cady that can go into this slot. Which means you could potentially have three hard drives.

Question 2

Is the SSD decent quality? Trying to determine if I should get this Aspire with the 17" screen and SSD, and add an HDD, or get the otherwise identical 15" version (E5-575G-55KK) with the 1TB HDD and add my own SSD. I will add 8GB RAM to whichever one I get.

I bought the 17" laptop for my wife (a photographer) and she absolutely loves it. The included drive in her system is a SK Hynix (P/N: HFS256G39TND-N210A) SATA M.2 B+M Key.I have not benchmarked it, but the advertised speeds on these drives are:
Sequential Read Speed: 540 MB/s
Sequential Write Speed: 250 MB/s
Random Read up to (IOPS): 95,000
Random Write up to (IOPS): 60,000?
If you're looking for ultra fast write speeds, the 15" with a PRO M.2 (IF compatible) may be the way to go. However, if you're looking for fairly quick writes and a lot of cheap storage space then get the 17" and a big HDD drive to stick in there.

Question 3

Does the wif often, disconnect on its own?

I haven't had any issues with the wifi except when using the stock FiOS router, I had terrible download speeds but uploads were fine. I got a new router and haven't had any issues since. No connection issues though on any router I've used.

Question 4

DOES IT HAVE A DVD PLAYER ?

No it does not come with a DVD player but it has the available slot to have one added.

Question 5

I understand Windows 10 is installed.  Does it come with Windows 10 media (i.e. DVD or flash drive) in case I have to re-install Windows?

You don't need media.
When Windows 10 is installed Microsoft records the unique serial number of your motherboard on its activation servers.
If you ever need to reinstall windows you simply download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (using another computer), create your own Flash Drive installer using said tool, and then reinstall Windows on this laptop (or wherever you want).  If the computer you are installing upon is already registered with Microsoft (which this laptop is) then the install will be automatically activated on first boot.

Question 6

Clarify if this model has a headphone jack? One answer says yes, one says no. Photos of right side of laptop are entirely different on this site and the Acer site. And contrary to the Yes answer, the Acer site does not list any such jack in their specs

I can verify by visual inspection (it is right here in front of me) that the combination Headset / Speaker Jack is on the right side of the unit just in front of the 2 USB ports.  Right where the manual states it should be.

Is it vr ready?

No. If you look at the required specs for VR, which can be found on nvidia's website, you will find that this laptop comes close but will not support VR.

Are the keys flat or sculpted?  What is your evaluation of keyboard feel?

Keys seem slightly sculpted, not entirely flat. Keyboard feel is good. Very pleased with whole laptop.

Question 9

Wanted to confirm this does not have a CD or DVD drive. Is there room for one? Any recommendations?

Anyone saying you need an EXTERNAL / USB drive is wrong.

An internal CD/DVD drive is not included, but there is an available bay to accept a 9mm slimline / SATA drive.

A custom bezel from Acer would be required if you want it to look really fancy, but any 9mm sata drive can be installed in this laptop's cdrom bay.

You do not need an external drive.

Question 10

Does this laptop have a VGA port? The picture shows one but the specs do not.
