Question 1

You mention in this add that the IOGEAR GBU521 is compatible with Windows 7.  Does this mean that the IOGEAR is compatible for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems?

Verified that it worked in XP and Win7 64bit.  I don't have Win7-32.  Tried using a blue tooth headset to play games, but the sound was choppy.  I switched from a USB 2.0 port, to a USB 3.0 port, when then caused the IOGear adapter to get hot and die.  So I'm disappointed and back to using my full size wired head phones.

Question 2

I picked up a bluetooth mouse, only to find that the computer didn't have bluetooth. Is this a possible solution?

I was in the same boat, only sub the mouse with a Bluetooth speaker.  I got this BT USB adapter, plugged it in, installed the drivers and I was off to the races.  Haven't had an issue with it yet.

Question 3

I am building a HTPC soon, and wondering if this will work well from the back of the case to twenty feet in front of it?

I bought this for a hackintosh build and using it with the apple bluetooth keyboard and magic tracked. i had it plugged into the usb  port on the back but the connection with the keyboard was spotty. i used a short usb extension cable to move it to the front. The keyboard now works without any connection interruptions. of course there are no mac drivers for this so i assume it should have to no problems with windows OS.

is this product windows 8 and 8.1 compatible?

It's Windows 8.1 compatible but you need to get the right driver from Broadcom.  As of April 8, 2015, the driver on iogear website does not work with 8.1.  The IOgear version is 12.0.0.6900 with a release date of July 26, 2013.  This does not work with Windows 8.1.

To resolve my issue, I had to get the driver from Broadcom.

This USB device uses the Broadcom chipset internally.  This driver did recognize the device and it seems to be working.

will this work on USB3?

Yes, I use it on a USB 3 port without issue (on Mac or PC). USB 3 would not be any better than USB 2 though as Bluetooth is slower than either.

I have Bluetooth on my laptop....I really like because links to my printer....if I buy this will it make my main computer Bluetooth so it can link to my jam box and printer?

It should - I used this to connect a special bluetooth keyboard device to a Windows 8 PC.  Bluetooth is just the wireless connection, so this essentially adds bluetooth to a PC with an OS that supports it, so it would be like the PC "came" with bluetooth - then it just comes down to the specific device/protocol/OS support

Well I worked on Windows 7 Ultimate PC and it works on Windows 8.1 Pro so I'm thinking that yes it will work on win 7 pro.

Is this product backwards compatible with 2.0 to 3.0??

Package states it is backward compatible with Bluetooth 1.1, 1.2, 2.0 and 3.0.

If I get this for my PC would my bluetooth enabled soundbar pick up my computer's audio? Would I need additional software?

You shouldn't need any additional software only a driver, as long as you are able to pair the devices. The sound bar should have included a driver for your windows machine. If not visit the website of the manufacturer or try to run windows update once paired.
There may already exist a driver on the windows update page.

Question 10

Anyone know if this works with ps3 controllers through ds3?

Yes yes yes. I have used this GBU521 with my DS3 and DS4 controllers for 2+ years now. I can walk away about 30-40 feet,1-2walls, with my DS4 before it starts having issues.. FYI you can't do the DS3 and DS4 on the same adapter though, you will need 2 of them for that..
