Question 1

is the headset wired or wireless to the amp hub?

It is wired to the controller hub, where you select the various channels to preset volume levels (like an equalizer, sort of).  The hub is wired to the computer.  There are RCA connectors for hooking up physical 7.1 system which the hub can switch between.

Question 2

Can I use the headphones and speaker out at the same time? I have a Buttkicker I want to use with these.

I don't know how to do it.  In windows, I have to right click the speaker on the task bar, and select "Playback Devices", then pick either my speaker out jack or my 7.1 Strix to be the "Default output device." Then it works.  They are both enabled all the time, but I've never heard them both play at once.

Question 3

So is this headset wireless at all or does it require to be plugged in?

The head set comes in both wireless, and wired respectively.  Not both. The wired version is fragile. Always on a hook the wired version broke for me in less than a year. Speaking of which, I still need to RMA mine.  The wire 8nto the headset is shorted. 1 star.

Question 4

is the audio produced from an optical cable from your device to the mixamp and then a 3.5mm jack from the mixamp to the headphones? much like the Astro A40's + MixAmp?

no the audio comes from 2 usb 3.0  ports on the device to the mixamp then comes out through what appears to be an HDMI port but only carries audio signals. Note: the 2 USB ports work perfectly with USB 2.0 as well, initially it gave weird audio artifacts with 3.0 but after a driver and firmware update worked perfectly with both. Hope this helps

It is. However, be aware that this headset will only use the included station for audio processing. And, the five included profiles are not that great. They sounded better on stereo mode than in 7.1. Probably because of the design of the ear cups and the arms. There is no swivel, so they didn't seal against my head. Your experience may be different. In my opinion, you can get a much better set of headphones and a desktop microphone for about the same amount of money.

Are these compatible with console as well as pc?

Both, the fitting to the base is proprietary hdmi. The pins don't match up for hdmi, though the connector is hdmi shaped. Between the base and the device is USB so anything should recieve it. 1 star.
