UPDATE: I am negating this review due to UTTERLY TERRIBLE customer service by MSI. So bad it's SURREAL! [OLD:Solid, clean, stable, well-built. Super-sexy. VERY nice. (If very overpriced... But it wa

Pros: UPDATE: I am DESTROYING any value of this review with this follow-up. I had an RMA experience with MSI that was so terrible and just utterly DISRESPECTFUL that it was surreal. After the board's PCH failed, I got a replacement board back after several days of arguing with them over the phone. But, even a little under a year later, I'm still so TICKED at them that I don't even want their board in my system anymore. Therefore, I have purchased an ASUS Rampage V Extreme 10 - JUST to spite them. (And for some of the better build features. It's really just higher quality - despite how happy I had been with this MSI board.)

Don't get me wrong. The board works. I will simply sell it. However... I can not abide such disrespect and, aside from liking this ASUS board better, I am literally doing this out of spite for just how utterly terrible their customer service was.

Due to this experience, MSI has utterly ruined their brand name for me. I had given them a second chance after several years of "HO-HUM" design decisions and failures... I will NOT make that mistake again. EVER.

- NOT RED. (Too much red-colored stuff out there these days. Thanks to MSI for FINALLY catching on.)
- Solid build quality
- Super clean layout and finish
- Great power management
- Outstanding Wifi and ethernet performance!
- Wifi antennae (2) have magnetic bases and which allows you to stick them to your metal case! Neat!
- Extra-clean instruction manuals (Not that I needed them, of course. Just noticed it.)
- Innovative M.2 > U.2 adapter module
- Metal-reinforced memory/PCIe slots! This boost to structural integrity looks real nice and gives peace of mind!
- The BIOS has myriad options available for tweaking. Particularly convenient boot device selection and ordering!
- Fired right up with my new Broadwell-E i7 6850K CPU!
- High-end RAM clocks to 3200MHz just fine on this board. Used XMP easily. (It doesn't use XMP by default.)
RAM Used: (Vengeance LED (White) 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz 16-18-18-36 (CMU32GX4M4C3200C16)
- All of my other hardware seems to work just fine with this board. (Graphics cards, soundcard, misc.)
- Plentiful/colorful RGB LED's. (With accurate color, despite what someone else here said.) Has numerous patterns and control software, "Mystic Light", seems to work OK.
- Software that comes with the board is actually USEFUL. *gasp*
- "Goodbye!" driver disks! "Hello!" dual-tipped micro-USB/USB-C flash drive with drivers and software on it!

Cons: $$$ COST, COST, COST!! $$$
YES. $550-600 is TOO MUCH. Even for THIS amazing board! It just doesn't add so much more value than it's near-competitors that this price is justified. NO board really does.

Despite being amazing in it's scope with all of the options available to you, the BIOS menu really needs an overhaul. It really needs to be organized better. (They could learn a lot from ASUS here... Their UEFI BIOS layouts are TOP-NOTCH.)

Cheap stickers with a carbon-fiber printed pattern on the heatsinks that are obviously meant to put meaning behind the "carbon" monicker. I knew before I bought the board but it still feels like they were meant to give the illusion of "carbon" in the name. This feels like manipulation as it seems like one way they might have been trying to justify the extreme cost of this board. (BOO. NOT COOL.)

RGB LED's (and Mystic Light)
RGB LED lights on the board; there was a real missed opportunity in that there were no permanent settings/controls in the BIOS to control the LED lights. Instead, AT FIRST, you're led to believe that using your bluetooth-connected phone with the "Mystic Light" app to select the colors and flashing patterns is the only way to do this. This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that the LED's default back to OFF setting EVERY single time you reboot the board. The only reason that I'm not more agitated about it is because they at least included Windows-based software that gives you the ability to set the color and patterns. It restores the settings each time Windows starts. (Static BIOS settings with the ability to update settings in real-time would have made more sense, however. Not everyone uses Windows!)

Strips of thin sheet metal between the PCIe slots have adhesive meant to keep their ends stuck to the board's surface but the adhesive utterly fails to do so. This represents a slight, insignificant ding to the build quality. But, because this doesn't affect structural integrity or operational stability in any way, I'm not concerned. I used other adhesive to fix.

The cables on the Wifi antennae really needs to be trimmed down. They just don't need to be that long.

The Killer Networks software is still utter garbage as it throttles your internet speed tests/connection - regardless of how you prioritize your software. The software also doesn't appear to utilize LACP frames so those of us who wish to create a port-channel group on our L2/L3 managed switches (Cisco WS-C4948 with cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-54.SG1.bin) are left trying to use the teaming features of the software - which don't appear to do ANYTHING useful. Don't use it. Install JUST the drivers for excellent network performance. It's FAST and has yielded noticeable improvements in gaming over my old Intel Gb NIC.

I really wish MSI had designed the USB 3.1 header to face off the edge of the motherboard rather than standing straight up Those connectors are difficult to work with as it is. Why would we want such a large header cable stemming straight up off of the surface of the board? This is causing me difficulty in adapting the board to my HAF X case. (Which still has the USB 3.0 female type-A ports on the rear of the front-panel board - which is non-standard these days.) I'm having to find a low-profile, 90-degree elbow connector or dongle first. Then I'll need a cable long enough... Then I'll need an adapter as I can't find a cable long enough with the female type-A connectors. It's doable but it's a bit of a jury rig - which I don't prefer.

UPDATE: Despite a few BIOS updates since I had bought the board, they still failed to correct a few ridiculous typos/spelling errors. Simple things like this matter as they show a lack of effort.

You'll notice that nearly all of my "Cons" were superficial gripes. (However annoying those things are...) There is absolutely nothing about this board that I've found that prevents it from being a rock-solid performer. Windows 10 threw a fit here and there but it had nothing to do with the board. After smoothing things out, Windows 10 runs just fine. Things are fast and snappy. Gaming improved significantly for not having also upgraded my graphics card. (Yet.)

If you feel like you want to accomplish something, chances are MSI's software has the function(s) you're looking for. Install it and look.

Updating BIOS has been as easy as it could possibly be. (Two updates have come out since my purchase.) I hope that MSI will continue supporting this board with regular BIOS updates. (Including, hopefully, a way to make permanent the RGD LED settings!)

This is a FAST, ROCK-SOLID board. There is no reason it shouldn't satisfy even the most hardcore gamers/enthusiasts out there.

Great Mobo

Pros: This motherboard was perfect for my build and is great quality, I'm very satisfied overall!

Cons: The connection on the WiFi antennas is fragile not on the motherboard but on the included external antennas and they often slip out of the connector.

Excellent board with a couple quirks

Pros: - BIOS takes guesswork out of OC'ing with the OC Genie
- 128gb memory support beyond 3000Mhz
- PCIe slots reinforced to the board making the slots more durable than other boards
- Many ports (USB, USB3.0, M2, SATA) and headers ensuring you can use pretty much whatever hardware you have

Cons: - Would have liked clearer instructions on what hardware can be used in which PCI slots
- Seems to take a couple seconds longer to POST relative to most boards I've used

Other Thoughts: This is an outstanding board. Overclocking is easy with the OC Genie in BIOS where you simply turn it on/off and the utility will auto-OC your CPU and memory speeds. I also liked that everything on the board (heatsinks/pipes, covers, etc) are low profile, so when you fill up with memory, video cards, and other hardware, I didn't run into any conflicts.

One thing you'll notice with this board is there is actually a supplemental power connection beyond the standard 24-pin motherboard supply and the 8-pin CPU supply. It is a 4-pin connection immediately adjacent to the 8 pin connection. aren't missing a cable. This is actually just a supplemental power connection if you want to do serious OC'ing. So under normal use and/or reasonable overclocking without voltage increases, you do not need to use this connection. But if you need this connection, either you can get a 4-pin cable or you can use another 8-pin power cable and either split it in half or plug half of it in (since the 8-pin connector is merely two 4-pins side by side).

Secondly, the documentation is a bit sparse on how the PCIe slots work. In a two-way SLI setup, you need the cards in the first and fourth slots. But that is explained in the instructions. What the documentation will not tell you is this will disable the fifth slot, so if you have something like a sound card and you put it in the fifth slot, it will not work. You need to use the third slot in the event you have a third piece of PCIe hardware.

Similar to the second point, if you utilize the M2 for an SSD, this will disable the third slot and you'll need to move the sound card up to the second slot.

Fantastic MB! Would buy again

Pros: This is a well made motherboard with a lot of options. Has very good placement of the connectors. The manual is great and offers a ton of easy to understand information.
I really have no complaints.
It looks fantastic and slick in my build.
Has 2 CPU power connectors.
Has 2 CPU fan connectors.

One great pro is that the PCI configuration is great for SLI/CF - they ensure that enough space is between the cards to allow for some air flow between the cards.
The bios and other software is easy to use and understand.
I used some RAM that wasn't on their official compatibility list and it was detected right away. Enabled XMP with no issues.

Cons: Price but I guess you get what you pay for?
I think, given the price, I'd prefer 2 full m.2 connectors.

Other Thoughts: I'll be honest, I was really concerned about using a MSI board (I usually use Asus or Gigabyte) due to "poor QC". I also wasn't too happy about dropping this much money on a board. But I did extensive research and this seemed to the best x99 I could find that fit all my needs.

I also want to state, get a board with debug LEDs, they are fantastic and really make your life easier. So far, I had to use them twice to diagnose build issues (loose connectors). I was going to go with another GB board but they don't have any debug LEDs?!?!

MSI X99A GodLike Gaming Carbon LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99

Pros: This board works great out of the box. I was able to overclock my 6850K to 4.0+ Ghz without any effort. My setup gives me 40 PCI lanes, Quad-channel memory @ 3200XMP, up to 128gb ram, good audio, Killer Nics, and two Nvidia cards in SLI. The board fits perfect in my Extended-ATX case (Cooler Master HAF-X).

One of the big selling points for me was the SLI spacing between cards. Buy the cheaper MSI Gaming-Pro-Carbon, if you you don't want to run SLI. The spacing on the MSI-Gaming-Pro for SLI is horrible. The cards are stacked too close and suffocate the top card in SLI. This is NOT a problem with the MSI-Good-Like-Carbon mobo (2-card spacing)!!! Both of my GPUs run equally cool, and the system works flawlessly. My two GTX-1080 SLI cards never break above 70c on any game, with Max settings in 4K. I love it!!!

Cons: $$$$...... I still haven't figured out how to setup the Bluetooth, but it is gimmick, so who cares. You can change the colors of the Mobo on the desktop, so you don't need the bluetooth app.

Documentation leaves something to be desired. I'm not a Noob, so it's not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: I have a MSI GodLike Carbon Mobo, Intel 6850K, and two GTX-1080s in SLI. In theory you would be good with a 6700K, but if you have the extra cash, the 6850K is a good choice.
I upgrade my PC every 8-10 years, so spending the extra money makes sense, for when Windows 11, 12, 13 are released. With this setup I have access up to 128GB of memory, two GPUs using 16X PCI-express lanes, and can Max-Out every current game on the market in 4K using the 1080s in SLI (The Witcher, Crysis 3, Doom, Battlefield 1, Skyrim, etc.)

Yes this setup is over kill, but this CPU & MOBO will still be above average 5 years from now.

I would recommend to others.

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Everything. Doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: After spending a couple months collecting parts, sleeving cables, water cooling almost everything, and getting top of the line (or so I thought) components, I go to finally turn on my computer and guess what? It doesn't do a thing. Long story short, motherboard was DOA. Now because I spent more than 30 days building my computer and waiting on parts from overseas, I can't even return the damn thing. Now yes I know now to turn everything on outside the case for this reason exactly, but I didn't. I trusted that spending 600$ on a motherboard would mean it would work out of the darn box. It didn't.

Now since I couldn't return to Newegg because it has been over 30 days, I had to warranty a brand new MB to MSI only to receive a used, refurbished, scratched up POS. Awesome. Thanks MSI. I send you a brand new motherboard, and your policy states that you only send out rebuilt used stuff. That is complete crap. So now I am returning, AGAIN, this MB for which they can't guarantee I won't get another physically damaged board.

MSI, get your stuff together, because you are doing it WRONG.

Very Satisfied!

Pros: The board is well made and very robust. It worked right out of the box. Had no issues with setting the OC. Windows 10 installation was a breeze.

Cons: poor manual. Doesn't describe everything that comes in the box and where it should go. Take your time when making all of your board connections.

Other Thoughts: I know some people have had issues with MSI and some with this board. I have always had good luck right out of the box with MSI and ASUS Motherboards so I can't complain. I am running 64Gbytes of RAM, Intel i7 3.3GHz 2011-v3 CPU, 1500W power supply, GE1080 Founders Edition Video card and a cpu water cooling system from Corsair.
