Is the Display Panel Gloss of Matte?

Neither. The coating is 3H anti-glare. You can search google for comparisons. It is essentially "between" glossy and matte -- some descriptions call it a "grainy light matte" for example. It's certainly not glossy, but has different characteristics than a matte coating. Like glossy vs. matte, you might have a personal preference of one over the other -- likewise with anti-glare. Your best bet is to visit a local retailer to see examples of each coating in person, for yourself. Personally, I have used monitors of all three types, and I strongly prefer the 3H anti-glare. I presently have a 3-monitor surround with VP2365s on my primary workstation. Your opinion of the coating might be entirely different.

Why doesn't this monitor have an HDMI connection? I thought this was the best way to go. Is DVI as good of resolution?

Yes the resolution will be just as good. The main difference is that the plug is a bit larger, and that DVI does not run audio like HDMI does.
