Jay, I would say that the USB 3.0 port, yes, it is powered. They claim it is 10X faster.

I have an inspiron one Dell all in one computer and seem to be having problems in that the NetGear 5G is not an option to connect to and therefore my speed is slow? Should they be compatible with either of the 4 following adapters: Broadcom Virtual Wireless, DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half mini-card, Microsoft Virtual Wifi Mini-port or Realtek PCIe GBE Family Contoller?

Try manually setting a channel on the 5 GHz band instead of leaving it on auto. Worked for me.
