Is this both a modem, and a router?

No. Just a router. However, it is a great router. 4Gigabit ethernet and 4x4 dual-band Wifi. Simple setup and configuration. No lag. No wheel of death or loading screens.

Good day... What is the advertised range of this router? How well does it live up to that range claim? Through walls and through open space? Thanks... Bill

I could not tell you the exact range advertised but I have been pleased with its connectibility. It replaced an older linksys and set up was remarkably easy. I had bought a Netgear triband/6 antenna before and could not set it up and get to work. It was sent back but Linksys came through on this one. I would recommend.
