Does this in essence actually act as both an access point AND bridge at the same time?

You have to have a DSL or Cable modem to connect to your internet service supplier. The dsl or cable modem must be configured to pass the signal through to the RE6500HG (mine connects to the AT&T dsl modem via ethernet. My RE6500HG then provides wired or wireless connectivity to my devises (I even use range extenders as required to reach distances. Works great !!

What is the maximum distance that the unit will still work.? I need something that will extend the range of my router for 150- feet line of sight.

I have established a full signal 200 from router. After 250 feet some signal loss is seen
