Can this be used as an access point in place of a router?

No. I do not think so. You plug this device into the USB 3 port of a computer to connect to WiFi networks, which require a router or an access point in the vicinity.

This device does not have any ethernet port to connect to a cable modem.  It just offers a USB 3 connection to a PC via a cable. This device is essentially a very good AC wifi dongle. With it (and the right router), your WiFi connection will be as fast as most gigabit ethernet lines.

Does it work with MAC OS El Capitan (10.11) ?

I don't own a MAC, however the specs do say that it does work with the proper MAC drivers.  The installation disk comes with drivers, I would suspect they come with the proper MAC drivers.  I saw a review of this on a page about MACs, so....looks good!

Question 4

I have an iMac 2011-27" with this adapter and AC router but I cannot see any improvement in my Home Wi-Fi network (or Internet). What should I do ?

Hi GP,
In order improve overall home wi-fi you need a strong wireless router. That alone may be the answer to the iMac's problem. If your router is weak then the 192 should strengthen it enough to get good connection. (taking distance and structure into account of course)

Can you plug this directly into the router itself?

Depends on the router's USB port, but you wouldn't do that for any reason anyway. This is a powerful dual band radio to compensate for a weak radio that's built into say a laptop or tablet.  For example my wife's laptop only had a 2.4GHz radio and the signal was always weak and dropping. Now with the 192 I'm getting blistering speeds and no drops.
