Question 1

I understand this laptop has a light up keyboard and other flashy light up parts. I am not familiar with such things. Can the lights be disabled?

Until I saw your question, I didn't even know it had a light up keyboard.  After checking it out, I found the touch sensitive button above the keyboard, which activates the LEDs under the keyboard.  The lights are under the keys, but do not shine through the actual keys, just around them.

So, I guess that answers your question about the keyboard.  There are also LEDs behind the power button and speakers.  I am not sure how to deactivate those.  But, they are pretty subtle and not very bright anyway.

Why can't I get my webcam to work?

You have to enable it, its disabled by default. Just press and hold (Fn) and press F6. If this does not work you will need to install the drivers found on the utility dvd. These drivers should be preinstalled unless you reformatted your computer after you received it. I had the same issue your having when I received it, took me a day to figure it out ^^".

Question 3

Hey this laptop's specs say that it is using 2 of 4 RAM slots available (2 being the two 8 gigs), but when i open the laptop up i only see those 2 8 gig sticks. No extra SODIMM slots. Its baffling the hell out of me because within task manager it says that there are a total of 4 slots available! if anyone has upgraded thier ram on this laptop , where is the second set of RAM slot???

I haven't checked but may be underneath. Have you checked the manual on the CD? I am sure Newegg would accept a return which I will do if not able to upgrade to 32MB. One of main reasons I purchased it.

Question 4

I have read some reviews that give very negative feedback regarding the speakers.  For $1200 would you say the speakers are good/bad quality for gaming sound effects?  (For example, no fuzzy noise and blown out speakers)

The speakers are of poor quality. This affects the range of sound that you get out of them. In other words, it won't be fuzzy or crackling, but you won't hear the full range of sound, so things may come out sounding "shallow" or tinny. They're not very loud, either. I'm no audio expert, but this is bad sound, even for me. Even plugging in some decent-quality ($20) earbuds will provide a massive gain in performance.

Question 5

Where to purchase a bracket to hold a second HDD? It comes with a piece of rubber to stop the HDD from moving. Not too fond of that, would like a 2nd bracket that screws in..

Any one know where to get one?

Thanks for the responses, i know it comes with 1 bracket for the 2nd hdd, and a rubber stopper for the 1st.

I dont like the rubber stopper, I want a 2nd bracket. I put a different hdd in it and the rubber stopper isnt secure enough.

For the price I'd think it would just come with 2 brackets...

I just bought this...hasn't arrived yet...is it true that HDMI out doesn't support sound?

The HDMI does support sound with either the Intel graphics selected or the Nvidia graphics selected. I just tested both and it worked flawlessly. If you have any trouble make sure you update both the Nvidia drivers and the Intel drivers and confirm that the appropriate audio out is selected in playback devices in the audio settings in Windows.

How long does the battery hold a charge?

If you're just web browsing and watching videos, you may get 3 hours out of the battery, probably closer to 2-2.5 hours. If you're gaming you may squeak past an hour of battery life for an graphically intense game, for something like Minecraft you may be able to get closer to 2 hours.

Question 8

Is the graphics card a 2gb or 3gb one? I know the site says it is 3gb, but one of the reviewers said it was really a 2gb.

It is 3GB. The Nvidia Optimus technology turns off the discrete graphics card when it is unnecessary and activates the onboard Intel graphics instead. The integrated graphics chip has 2GB of memory and he may have been getting the info about that through CPU-Z without realizing that it was referring to the wrong graphics chip. Actually a couple of times I tried CPU-Z and it gave me 2GB for the 770m and 3GB for the Intel one. But GPU-Z correctly reads 3GB always.
