Does this have a backlit keyboard?

No backlit.... Monitor screen quality isn't that great and too dark in the sun. I bought for price and i7 processor

Can I upgrade the Ram ?

Yes, there is one slot open on bottom side that you could add one DDR4 memory by maximum 8GB.

Does it have a secondary hard drive expansion or do I need to replace it if I want an ssd?

No, it does not, and you need to replace it. Plus doing so will require you to open the whole back cover and might lose your warranty.

is there an LED to tell user that CAPS lock or NUM lock is on?

No. There is not. Don't like that.

How is the mouse/track pad? Right clicking on something on the Windows desktop?

It's fine. It has the track pad basically assigned left (regular) click, to the lower left and entire top of track pad with the right click alllotted to the lower right only. No complaints.

Specs say nothing about an optical drive yet the pics show one. Does this have an optical drive?

Yes, it has a tray that ejects from the right side.
