Yes, it has a red backlit keyboard.  When plugged in the keyboard will remain lit all the time.  When operating on battery power the keyboard turns off after a period of non-use.  If desired the backlite can be turned off by pressing one of the function keys.

The majority of the casing is made from a soft matte plastic. However the back piece is chrome painted hard plastic. It's light weight with a nice overall look.

are all the ports really on the right side?

Unfortunately, yes.  I didn't think it would be an issue, but since I position my laptop on the left side of my desk, having all the USB wires take up desk space is quite annoying.  I bought a USB hub and now only have 1 wire out the side and the rest behind my screen, which helps.

How good is the cooling under load? I mean How hot does it get under several hours of playing MMORPG's or LoL

I have been using this for quite a bit now but cooling is not really an issue when playing League of Legends. However, you may want to get an SSD since the HDD is just too slow for any serious gaming. You will experience constant freezing, not to mention the long loading time. I no longer have this issue after I got an SSD. I am using samsung 850EVO, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147398, but anything of this kind will do.

Hi , i was thinking about purchasing this laptop and was wondering if anyone had any comments to help sway my decision? I just want to know things like does anyone regret buying this? or what is battery life like with normal use (and with battery saver)/ things in random about it like hows the keyboard? i would like positives and negatives.

I've had this laptop for about half a month now. There are only 2 things that bothered me greatly.
1. My unit came with a Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi card, and let me tell you, that card does NOT like working with Window 8.1. It took me about a week to realize that it wasn't the card that was the problem, but a Windows 8.1 driver. If you do get this computer, and it comes with an Atheros card, just keep in mind to upgrade it to Windows 10 asap.
2. The 5200RPM HDD is absolutely horrible. You might want to consider putting in an SDD to supplement it. Applications could sometimes take up to 5 seconds just to open.

Lastly, the battery life. I'm throwing this in because I know it bothers some people (but not me, because I usually plug it in anyway), but the battery will last you 3 hours or less on regular use. You're not gonna want to leave the house with your charger.

How long does the battery actually last? how long does it last just going on a browser vs playing games? thanks

I keep it plugged in most of the time, but I'll say 4 hours just browsing the internets and half that for gaming regardlesso of whether the game uses the nvidia 960m or the built in Intel for the rendering.

I have Windows 10 on it though and I've heard it has been terrible for battery life. I agree, but besides that 10 is extremely stable on this laptop.

I also added an SSD, and it has been SO worth it!

It's super quick and quiet now

Yes the keyboard is backlit with red light. Looks pretty neat. I don't think its customizable though.
