Does this have a DVD drive?

I picked up a $10 DVD R/W drive, USB 3 connection for those few times that you may need to install something. Plug and play, recognized and worked no problems.

Does this laptop have numeric keyboard?

Yes it does. Good laptop -- the only problem comes if you want to replace the HDD with a SSD as the connector is non standard. Had to obtain a replacement connector head unit to enable the SSD to slide into it.

1. Does hardware keyboard shut off , when you use laptop like tablet ?
2. How is playing 4K video ? (any lags or troubles)

Keyboard disables when used in tablet mode after you flip the keyboard back behind the monitor. Probably because it isn't accessible once it's behind the screen. You can bring up a digital keyboard using Windows 10 menu.

No idea on 4k video. Don't think I've watched anything over 1080

would this run photoshop and illustrator efficiently?

I can't say specifically about PhotoShop and Illustrator. I think so. It is a terrific computer, a fantastic value. My wife runs Quicken, PhotoShop Elements, the usual browsing, etc. Seems to me the question is "Can an Intel I5 2.3GHz, 8GB computer run PhotoShop?" Surely it can but will it be as fast as you want? Tough to say without trying it.

Is there room to install a 2nd hard drive in this machine?

Above answers are inaccurate. A second HD can be installed to this machine but it must be an m.2 type SSD drive. I have added and 256GB m.2 drive, made it a boot drive, reinstalled Windows 10 on this drive, and am using the stock 1TB conventional drive for general storage. Best of both worlds, and machine is much faster.

Is it certified refurbished? And safe to buy?

To reflect the a similar reply as Richard P, this came in a non-Acer box (no big deal) and had all components and looked brand new. No scratches or blemishes and runs smoothly and very cool under heavy movie watching on the lap.

Can I change out the hard drive for a solid state drive?

It also has a connector for a SATA  (Not PCIe) m.2 2280 SSD. I installed one and made the 1 TB HDD extra storage.

Does it have a backlit keyboard?

The keyboard backlight will auto-on when you press any key and will remain on as long as you continue to type or use the keyboard.  When you stop using the keyboard, after about 30 seconds of no keyboard activity it will auto-off.  I don't think there is an option to have it always on when not using the keyboard.

how long would you believe this laptop would last me? im looking into using it for college, light gaming, photoshop, and general use

I got this one for my grand-daughter that is a Junior in high school.  With the right software, it should take her through college.  It has plenty of storage, the graphics are great and you can easily add more memory, if need, for surfing the web.  It is a nice size and easily fits into her pack-pack.  The touch screen is a big plus! You will love it. You will want to get an external disk drive (not very expensive), however, for loading software and for large backups.  A simple jump drive will take care of your day to day needs.

Specs say it has Gigabit LAN.  But the pics don't show LAN port anywhere.  Does it or does it not (have Ethernet LAN port) ?   THAT's the question.
