Is the 60Hz refresh disappointing "in-game"?

I think it would depend on what games you're interested in playing. I use it mainly for VR and MOBAS (LoL/Dota2/Smite) and no, it isn't. If you're playing FPS games, it might be more noticeable. Console games are usually locked at 30fps anyway, so you're getting a better viewing experience than any PS4/XBOX player anyway.

Does this use that awful Optimus?

It doesn't. It actually has no intgrated graphs at all.

What brand of M.2 512 is installed on the laptop?

2 Samsung PM871 256GB SSD configured in a Raid 0 using Intel Rapid Storage Technology. It seems fast. I haven't benchmarked it. There is another open M.2 Slot. I added CT1050MX300SSD1 1 TB M.2 SSD with no issues. Just remember to purchase a M.2 screw. Laptop does not come one.
