Upon closer inspection, there is no SD card slot, even though the description lists it.  Is this an adapter that comes with the laptop, or am I missing something?

I'm assuming that this is some kind of error in the description, as there is no SD card slot on the computer and no such adapter was included in the box.

It has 2 x 8gb Samsung DDR4 2400MHZ Modules. You can upgrade later to 2x16gb. I upgraded mine to 32gb using two sticks off G.Skill F4-2400C16D-32GRS. Other internal components: 1 x HDD Seagate 1Tb ST1000LM035 and 1 x Samsung NVME PM981 512GB ML-VLB5120

Yes, the operating system is part of of the solid state drive to help smooth operations.
Also, the PCIe is made by samsung. NVMe samsung mzvlb512 according to my hardware settings.
The standard hard drive is a Western Digital model hard drive. I think it may be 5400 over 7200 though, but I'm not sure. But the thunderbolt drive makes it all the better so you can expand easily with an external drive.

Can the USB-C be used to add another monitor?

I have used a monitor on de MiniDP port but haven't used it on USB- C (Thunderbolt) port. I think this laptop has the standard connection for that because of Thunderbolt technology implementation.

Marginal difference. The normal battery specs are as listed, replacing the second HDD with a SSD will make very little difference.
